Sex has no expiry date, says Dr. Kothari

Sex a frustration issue...

Asha asks,
I am 50 and my husband is 55 years old. I used to rebuke him for his lively interest in sex even in this age. This becomes a frustrating issue between us. But I think my judgement is right. Please advice.
Dear Asha,

As a man grows older, he does not loose interest and facility in sex. In fact, the sexual life becomes better because the couple knows each others likes and dislikes, their preferences in the matters pertaining to arousal after having spent a lifetime together.

In case of females, sometimes because of hormone deficiency after menopause, the vaginal epithelium becomes fragile, lubrication may reduce and as a result the intercourse may become painful. In such situations, added lubrication or hormone replacement may prove beneficial. Please remember that sexuality as important for the older set as it is for the jet set. And lastly, do not forget; sex has no expiry date.

Inability to ejaculate...

Sudhir asks,
I got married four months ago. My problem is during intercourse, I am not able to ejaculate. After my wife reaches to the climax, I don't have sensations. We perform oral sex regularly. What could be the possible reason for my inability to ejaculate during intercourse?
Dear Sudhir,

Your problem is inability to experience orgasm intra-vaginally. If you are able to reach orgasm during oral sex or masturbation, by and large, there is no major physical problem. Sometimes, if the woman is aroused too much or if there is evidence of lax vagina (loose vaginal muscles), there may not be a better grip, which might be the cause of your inability to climax intra-vaginally.

Adopting woman's legs crossed position where the grip will enhance to a great extent can successfully help this. Later on, you may advise your partner to do Vajroli and Ashwini mudra (yogic asanas) to enhance the tone of vaginal muscles.

Do I have AIDS?

Mahesh asks,
I am a 23 year old attractive man who has had sex and relationships with many girlfriends in the past. Recently someone told me if I had multiple sex partners I am likely to get AIDS. I'm nervous.
Dear Mahesh,

If you have had unprotected sex with many partners, then you must get your HIV test done at your earliest and repeat the same test after 6 months in a reliable laboratory. And from now on, please remember that chances of getting wet are much more in rainy days especially if you don't use a raincoat! It would be wiser for you to use a condom in all your future sexual encounters.

Pain during penetration...

Angelie asks,
I am a newly married woman. After six months of our marriage, I still have intense pain during penetration. We do enough foreplay. What will be the reason behind the pain?
Dear Angelie,

If you have enough foreplay in a manner which you like, then you need to be lubricated enough. If you are not aroused in a manner of your choice then please communicate to your partner about your likes and dislikes. So he arouses you in a desired manner. Other reasons, which could hamper lubrication, could be a local vaginal infection or hormone imbalance.

Emergency contraception...

Fred asks,
My girlfriend and I usually have sexual intercourse with the use of a condom. But I've heard that sometimes, condoms do tear. In such cases, what should we do to avoid pregnancy?
Dear Fred,

In such a situation, a woman may adopt "post coital emergency contraception" under a doctor's supervision. There are tablets available to be taken at 12 hourly intervals for one day; within the 72 hours (earlier the better) of unprotected sex. This provides 98 % of protection from pregnancy.
