Genital Hair Hygiene
|
All of us have questions about genital health and hygiene that we'd like answered. But most of us are too embarrassed to ask our friends and even our doctors about queries pertaining to genital hair hygiene.
So here's everything you wanted to know about keeping your pubic hair hygienic but were too embarrassed or shy to ask!
Is it safe to shave off your pubic hair?
As long as you're careful when using the razor and don't cut yourself in the process, shaving your genital hair is safe. In fact, a shaved off genital area can be lot more hygienic for women especially during the time of their monthly period.
For men too, shaving off their genital hair can be healthy and hygienic. Another advantage of shaved off pubic hair is that it can increase sensation during lovemaking and lead to more powerful orgasms for women. However, if you are prone to catching any yeast infections around your pubic area, it may be better to leave the hair as it protects the area from foreign bacteria.
How close can you cut your genital hair?
The only way to answer this would be – as close as you're comfortable with, without actually cutting off your skin. Some people who shave off their genital hair completely feel a lot of itching when the hair is growing back, while others don't. So, if you too feel itchy when the hair comes back, you may want to cut your hair very short without actually shaving it all off. But if itchiness is not a problem for you, get it all off!
Should you shave or wax your pubic hair?
This again is a matter of personal choice. Just so you can make an informed decision, here are the pros and cons of both. Shaving can be done at home, is not painful, and doesn't cost you much other than the initial investment for the razor. However, with shaving, the hair comes back within 4-5 days and there may be itching accompanying the initial growth. The shaved off area also does not feel as smooth as with waxing.
As far as waxing is concerned, you'll feel a lot smoother, the hair stays away for 2-3 weeks, and when it grows back it is thinner. The problem of ingrown hair is also less with waxing than with shaving. But (and it's a very big BUT), waxing hurts like crazy! Also, you have to get it done at a saloon (from others), which means you need to be comfortable with the idea, apart from the cost which is more than shaving.
Can pubic hair be removed permanently?
Yes, you can remove your pubic hair permanently with the help of electrolysis or other laser hair removal techniques. In fact, if you shave or wax your genital hair often then this may be a great solution for you. Laser hair removal helps to remove your pubic hair once and for all and you'll be baby soft forever. Of course, the procedure requires you to sit through 5-6 sittings which can be quite painful to bear. It also costs a lot more than waxing and shaving but in the long term the cost can be well worth the clean look.
However, once you do laser removal there's no going back! So, before you contemplate laser hair removal, do shave or wax your genital hair a few times so that you can be sure you do not catch any yeast infections in the absence of your genital hair.
Is it true that a clean shaven pubic area translates into better sex?
Yes, this is true for most couples. The reason behind this is three-fold. Firstly, most men and women get a lot more excited when the genital area is free from hair as it looks a lot prettier when it is clean. Secondly, sexual sensations get heightened when there is no hair to take away some of the sensation from your lover's touch, because of which climaxes may be more strong, intense, and easier. And thirdly, people are more comfortable indulging in oral sex when their partners keep their genital area clean and hair free. And there is no doubt that oral sex can be a very pleasurable form of lovemaking.
Having said that, some men do complain about getting hurt or feeling 'pokey' when the hair starts to grow in, especially if the woman has shaved her hair and not waxed it. Thus, for such men a clean shaven area may not always translate into better sex. Now which scenario holds true for you, only you and your partner can decide!
