Suppressing Nature
Taranath Suvarna asks,
My daughter is 6 yrs old. She is very shy and doesn't mix with other children of her age. I know she is talented and has potential. Something keeps her back. I don't know what. I want her to get out of this.
Dear Taranath Suvarna,
Please do not worry. Each one of us is different. Very casually take her to gatherings; make her join hobby classes, some outstation children's camps. Gradually she will mix around. Please do not see too much into it - your excessive concern will spoil everything.
Suffering From Dyslexia
Dharmesh Rawal asks,
My daughter is 14 yrs old and is suffering from Dyslexia. I have tried out many doctors (psychiatrists) but medicine given by them and advice did not suit her. Studies are getting tougher because of lapse in concentration and because of failure she is becoming more aggressive. Kindly guide me on this.
Dear Dharmesh Rawal,
I am not a medical practitioner. Her growth will be a little slow. I know it is tough, but we have to be tolerant, encouraging, appreciative and understanding. Please check with your doctor or a psychologist (with all the reports) to see if she can avoid medicines. We have also to try alternative methods of study - let her pursue her interests and let us be supportive. This will help reduce her aggressiveness.
Stage Fright
Prakash asks,
I'm in 12th standard and I fear speaking on stage. Basically I have stage fright and I cannot deliver speeches. I want to overcome this problem? What should I do?
Dear Prakash,
Every person has stage fright - it is absolutely normal. You have to take part - experience and get over the fear. Please join some classes of public speaking or personality development. I was removed from the stage when I was in Std VI for failing to recite a poem due to nervousness. Today I am an orator. We all can do it. Please do it.
Importance Of Personality
Tamil asks,
Why is personality development considered an important aspect in today's industry? Can't the ordinary man take on his casual life in the firm? Is it necessary to change oneself? What is the benefit of personality grooming?
Dear Tamil,
Personality development has always remained important. I began my research in 1963 when I was 15 yrs old, much ahead of times. Today the need has been felt and accepted. PD is wrongly understood. Why should one change oneself? This is not PD. We are to identify and accept ourselves - good and bad, strength and weakness. We should grow on our strengths and rectify our weaknesses. Enhance our potential and fine-tune ourselves that includes sharpening our skills - communication, observation (awareness), etiquette, reading, writing and understanding others. The benefit is that one is accepted far more easily, and one stands out in a group. Who does not want to be known or appreciated - everyone does. PD addresses this desire of man.
Read To Improve Language
K. Govindrajulu asks,
I am tenth pass and I find difficulties while communicating in English. I have tried improving it but all in vain. What do you recommend for enhancing the communication skill?
Dear K. Govindrajulu,
Please read books by (Mills and Boons, Sidney Sheldon, Harod Robbins, Jane Austin, Ayan Rand etc) and magazine you can lay your hands on. When I say read - it is not glancing through. Next, converse in English alone and also be observant as to where you go wrong. Then also find time to write down your thoughts in English. A little extra activity will include appreciating your body and dressing well. This will break your inhibitions (physical and mental).
