Health Checks That Keep You Safe
|
Fortunately, a friend suggested a thyroid test - which revealed that Reema had a thyroid problem. Six months on, a flurry of activities prevailed once again in their marital nest! Reema now carefully monitors her condition and is careful to take her medication regularly.
In other words, it pays to take an appointment with your doctor every now and then. To help you get started, here's a random list of common checks you should undergo on a regular basis. Of course, your doctor will be able to suggest others based on your family and personal medical history:
- Oral examinations (teeth and oral cavity) to ensure oral hygiene
- Ophthalmic checks
- Blood Pressure
- Diabetes
- Cholesterol
- Bone-density examinations (especially women but nowadays faulty diets also predispose middle aged men to osteoporosis)
- Breast examinations (obviously women)
- Pelvic examinations (to rule out cervical diseases in women)
- Skin cancer examinations if you work or spend a lot of time in the sun
- Hearing check, especially if you work in a factory or are over 60 years old
