Health Checks That Keep You Safe

Health Checks That Keep You Safe Should a couple that feels healthy visit a doctor?

You work out at the gym and boast of following a healthy diet to a tee. Coming to think of it, that hour-glass figure or those six packs suggest that you're oozing health! But hold on a minute - is it enough to assume that because you look good and feel great, you are healthy?

Not really - you still need to undergo regular health check-ups, opine experts. In fact, speaking on a more practical note, we certainly don't all eat right and exercise enough on a daily basis. Nor do most people look the way they wished they would!

Health check-ups can prevent scares

So - getting a doctors' clean chit after undergoing a regular 'he' and 'she' package health check-up is a must for partners to confirm their healthy status.

''Having yourself examined and undergoing a few diagnostic checks can warn you of the onset of silent killer diseases such as hypertension,'' says Rakesh. On a whim, Rakesh's wife gifted him a health check-up voucher on his thirty-eight birthday. He made use of it... and discovered that he was hypertensive.

Of course, his work as a clinical research auditor involved a lot of travel and since he constantly lived under stress, it probably contributed to his disease. Nevertheless, Nandini's (his wife) tender loving care had unearthed his disease, and of course, she also monitored his diet and encouraged him to exercise at their local gym or at hotel gyms when he was traveling. Today, Rakesh manages his condition with correct diet and exercise.

...and major disappointments too

It would therefore be safe to say that you owe it to your partner to undergo regular health check-ups. Read on to know the worse case consequences of ignoring this essentiality. "I lost my beloved wife to breast cancer. She was only 50 years old. Our two daughters were 22 and 25. The elder one was engaged and we were planning her wedding at the time. Anita's death set a pall of gloom over the family and my daughters' lives," laments Vijay.

Sadly, Anita could have been saved, if only she had followed her GP's advice to undergo regular breast examinations. But she ignored this counsel and also delayed visiting a doctor once she felt the symptoms herself, somewhat foolishly thinking that if she had a disease, its treatment would interfere with the family's finances.

Save your marriage - get yourself checked-up

In another instance, high-flying 35-year old executive Reema had been married only a year. Her first year of married life was nothing short of bliss! But then strangely, Reema began to feel fatigued beyond measure. She was always too tired to do this, that or anything. From being a bubbly bride just a few months ago, she was now less than a shell of her former self. Her husband Nitin could just not fathom what was wrong with his loving wife. How could Reema's career and their active married life have drained her of all her energy? She ate well, rested on week-ends and was otherwise fit.
