The very first thing when it comes to this topic is acknowledging the very necessity of such a thing in the first place! We often tend to "let go" with the people we love most... taking them for granted. And when we lose our manners and etiquette in relationships, we tend to lose the love and respect of that person.
So Rule #1: Realize that manners and etiquette do get you real love and respect
Next, NEVER do anything in front of your partner, which you would not do in front of guests in your home. I mean things like scratching your butt, digging your nose, expelling gas and other unmentionable, unwatchable acts. To the extent that you can keep to this rule, to that extent you will maintain your dignity and self-respect in front of the person that matters to you the most.
So Rule #2: Behave yourself
Generally keeping yourself healthy and hygienic is very important. Try to keep yourself as neat, clean, slim and attractive, as you were when you first met. Some general guidelines: use a deodorant (not an antiperspirant), always keep perfume on your body, use apricot scrub every 3 days, do regular manicures and pedicures (can do it yourself), don't eat pungent foods (these cause body odour), exercise till you sweat for 30 minutes a day, practice meditation for inner peace and satisfaction.
Rule #3: Be fresh and rocking
Cultivate a joy and happiness that is not dependent on your partner. Either get a hobby that you love, have other friends that really inspire you to be a better person or read books on how to find true happiness in life. Here I mention again the incredible value of meditation when it comes to finding a peace and joy that can be with you 24/7. The more you are happy within, the more you can "be a giver" to your partner and the easier you will find it to follow all the other rules.
Rule #4: You can't give happiness till you have it. Go and get it!
And some more little rules that will have BIG results:
Rule #5: NEVER criticize your in-laws. Never.
Rule #6: NEVER insult him or her in front of others.
Rule #7: When he or she is with his or her friends, don't disturb them.
Rule #8: Buy each other gifts that show your thoughtfulness, not those that create an atmosphere of luxury.
Too much luxury stagnates a relationship. Live with less, and use your extra income for social work.
Rule #9: Pray together. Read the scriptures together.
Rule #10: Encourage each other to be busy with higher things, and be busy with higher things yourself.
Make an effort to become a better and better person. Read books about relationships, try to apply things you read, and work towards being more understanding, tolerant and sophisticated as a person. The more of a gentleman or gentlewoman you are, the better will be your luck in relationships.
