Past relationships
Alka asks,
I am writing from Canada. I was wondering if you could give some tips to build trust on the partner when you know about some trivial relationship, peripheral relationships of one's spouse in past which does not exist anymore?
Dear Alka,
If you are confident that he does not have any inclination towards trivial relationships now then you should totally burn / bury / trash / delete the past. The past has no existence effectively. It is just a concept. A dreamlike land from which we can choose to retain certain aspects or nullify altogether. Always remember that when we go to the next life we are given the great gift of complete amnesia. So if we can forget things then, we can consciously and selectively forget unwanted things now. The power and freedom that comes from exercising this ability is incredible. And anyways, bear in mind, that we all experiment in our frolicking twenties... retaining only what is truly "us" in our thirties (or you can say, after marriage). Your job is to trust, trust, trust. Don't corrupt the purity of your inner world by doubt and darkness. You be pure, and let other people look after their own karma.
Low self-esteem
Nupur asks,
I am a 22 year-old Indian girl living in the UK. I am obese and that takes a lot of my self-confidence away. My sense of clothing style is very poor. Can you suggest a diet to follow and tell me how to get a full makeover?
Dear Nupur,
Losing weight is a long process. So arm yourself with the all-important skills of patience and perseverance before you get started. Ace photographer Daboo Ratnani had a very inspiring thing to say about his amazing journey of weight-loss. He said one day he looked at his weighing scale, which read 117 kgs... he then said to himself, "This is the last day that my weighing machine will say '117 kgs'. He also added, he was in no rush and would try to lose wait slowly...but he would make sure that that needle would only go down, down, down. And it surely did. The tips:
- Warm water with lime and honey before brushing every morning followed by another normal glass of water (gradually increase to two more)
- Two glasses of water 10 minutes before every meal
- Never drink water with a meal
- Raw salads and fruits, tonnes of fresh juices and soups
- Fill a bottle with water, lime and a little salt...keep sipping when hungry
- Eat 3 square meals, dinner at 6 or 7 pm (thus you avoid snacking)
- Have cabbage soup and grapefruit everyday (they have negative calories)
- No butter, oil or sugar.
- Meal options: brown rice with boiled daal (put ginger, tomatoes, coriander in the making); rotis with steamed spinach / methi / boiled veggies / daal , rice salad... Make up creative options. The trick is to be proactive rather than re-active. Think about meal alternatives when you are not hungry.
- Walk or run (at a comfortable pace, Do Not Overexert) or step up to the treadmill for 30 minutes everyday. Regularity is more important than intensity of practice.
- Meditate and fast on fruits once a week to calm your appetites.
- Be patient. Give it a year. You will see results.
