Hairstyle that will suit
Jyoti asks,
I have broad forehead. How can I comb my hair, so that it doesn't look odd?
Dear Jyoti,
These days, a fringe is really in. What I just got done was a really short fringe, as I love that baby look. A short, uneven fringe is light and covers your forehead without feeling too heavy. Try it out.
Want a soft and bright look
Fatima asks,
I want to groom my face. I have an oily skin. I do drink a lot of water, but still the pores are prominent. Please help me out quickly because I am getting engaged after a month.
Dear Fatima,
Couple of good tips: always cleanse, tone and moisturise. An excellent range of products, which I love, is Vichy (and I am NOT working for them). Buy the cleanser and toner for oily skin. The products are available at a chemist that has imported products. You will see really good results. Also use apricot scrub for 5 minutes, twice a week. Be gentle so as to not aggravate your skin. And steam once a week for 7 minutes. Use a sunscreen of spf 15 if you don't go out in the sun, and spf 30 if you do go out in the sun a lot. You should see a difference with these few things. (P.S. For an extra sparkle sometimes, lather some soap or face wash in your hands and add a half-teaspoon of sugar. Rub into your face for 5 minutes, adding water as you go for a bit of lather. This will give you a bright albeit temporary glow).
Difference between boy friend and husband
Sankaranaryanan asks,
What is the exact difference between boy friend and husband?
Dear Sankaranaryanan,
A marriage certificate!
Get a promotion
Jyotika asks,
I have been working in a reputed company for 2 years with a good performance. I feel that I deserve to get a promotion well ahead of the company's policy. How should I put this across to the Manager?
Dear Jyotika,
Do your homework. Prepare a fantastic cover letter, saying, "Attached is a list of my achievements over the past two years. I am sure you will agree that I deserve an incentive for the results I have
attained for the company since I joined." Also mention that if not, patience will pay in the long run and you will prove yourself with your outstanding performance. Then, the next page should be entitled "Achievements". In paragraph form, starting from the most recent achievement and going back to the very first one, write out each assignment you were given, how you handled it, and what results it got for the company. Don't be afraid to brag, but do it in an honest, practical, matter-of-fact way. Make sure you convey that you are not asking for the promotion because you need the money, but because you deserve to be paid more so that you perform with extra vigour for the sake of the progress of the company. Good luck!
Make-up for a tired face
Ana asks,
I am a research student and sometimes, when I want to go out after a hectic day, my eyes look dark. What make-up do you suggest for tired face and eyes?
Dear Ana,
A well-kept secret of the film and television industry is Kryolan panstick. It's used primarily for the media, but I have started using it daily! FS 26 (or was it 36?) is normally a colour that suits everybody. Apply a little and spread it out, as it can get cakey. And make sure you use a thick cold cream or baby oil to get it off, followed by a good face wash to get THAT off. And then, get a good peach shadow to use as a blush, and peach gloss. This will make you look fresh in a natural, healthy sort of way. (By the way, Kryolan is only available where film make up is sold, so you may have to scout around for it...or ask a professional make-up artist where he/she gets it. In Bombay, it's available at the Beauty Centre on S.V. Rd., Bandra).
