Microsurgery
Sadiq Moin asks,
My wife had undergone a family planning operation. Is it possible that she can get pregnant again? The reason behind my query is we had consulted the doctor who had done the surgery and he says that he had cut the vein and stitched it. What should be done?
Dear Sadiq Moin,
Your best option would be to find an experienced plastic surgeon and get tubal microsurgery done to re-attach the tubes.
Perimenopausal
RSD asks,
I'm unmarried and 45 yrs old. I was involved with a guy and we used to have sex once a month but he would not spill into me. The last time I met was in Jan. Since then I haven't got my periods. Usually I get my periods regularly (21 days cycle). I did home test for pregnancy - it's negative. I have no symptoms of pregnancy till date? How do I know that am I pregnant or is it menopause? Please advice. I am worried?
Dear RSD,
The reason you missed your periods is because you did not ovulate. This is called anovulation. It sounds like you are perimenopausal. You can do a blood test to check your FSL level to confirm this if you want.
Freezing Eggs
Noorzia asks,
I was diagnosed with Breast cancer six months ago and then I had chemotherapy and subsequent removal of the mass in my breast. Now I am taking radiotherapy. I have one daughter - four years old. Would I become pregnant if I have intercourse?
Dear Noorzia,
Chemotherapy can often damage ovarian function. Please ask your doctor to test your ovarian reserve if you want to conceive, after you finish your treatment. You might have considered freezing your eggs prior to starting the breast cancer treatment.
Anejaculation
Preethy asks,
We have been married for 2 years now. We did some blood tests. All the test results for me are normal. My husband did semen analysis last year which was not good. The doctor said to do it again but he has no ejaculation. Is there any treatment for that? He was on testosterone gel for one week. Do you think that is the problem? Please help me.
Dear Preethy,
Can he produce a semen sample by masturbation? Does he get night falls (wet dreams or nocturnal ejaculations)? He seems to have anejaculation.
Contraceptive Pills
Pooja asks,
I am 29 yrs old. Married for the last 6 months, I am taking contraceptive pills (Novelon) with no side effects. I am taking them regularly till the pills get over, then after that within 3-4 days I get my periods.
My questions are:
- Is there any harm in taking them regularly? What is the best way to take them? I will be very grateful if you suggest any other method for contraception.
- What is "Today's" Pills? Are they effective? Any side effects? Are they harmful for health?
- Can you suggest any other method for this? As we are not ready to have child now.
- What is safe / unsafe period? How to follow them?
Dear Pooja,
It's safe to take these contraceptive pills. They are effective and have no harmful effects. If you are happy with them, you can take them for as long as you want!
The "unsafe" period is your "fertile" period during which you may get pregnant if you have sex. You can calculate your fertile days by using our free fertility calculator at www.drmalpani.com/freefertilitycalculator.html
