Delay In Conceiving
Amar asks,
I am now 46 and my wife is 48. Is there any hope that we can be parents at this age? We got married in 1991, but till date I faced dejection. We did consult many doctors and they did the usual stuff of tests, which I somehow feel that it was not in right or correct direction. Don't ask for any reports, as all have been misplaced or destroyed.
They said that my sperm count is not that low and made my wife undergo sigmoscopy on fallopian tubes. But the doctor did not say anything and said, "All is fine, keep trying by checking the early morning temperatures of my wife and program the attempt accordingly." One of the gynecologist said, "Don't try at this your age." What's your opinion? Is there any hope? How much expense is there for a full proof conception? By whichever medical way you think deem fit for our case, but it should be our own yield and no donor involved. Is it possible?
Dear Amar,
At this age, the chances of your wife getting pregnant with her own eggs are virtually zero. Your options now include: childfree living; adoption; donor egg IVF or embryo adoption.
Pregnancy Cannot Be Guessed
Raji asks,
I am 28 and have a 6 yrs old baby. My menstrual cycle was regular - once in approx 28 days. On Sep 2006 I became pregnant again and aborted it in first month taking tablets from doctor. After one month I took hormone injection for preventing of pregnancy. Recently I consulted a doctor and he did scanning which showed that I had PCOD and asked me to take Glyciphage and Krimpson 35, but when I took Krimpson 35 I got my periods with very low blood flow. After three months I stopped intake of Krimpson 35 which led to pause in my periods. I doubt that I am pregnant again, is there any chance to conceive in this stage.
Dear Raji,
The best way to find out if you are pregnant or not is to do a pregnancy test, rather than to guess. If Metformin has successfully induced ovulation, it is possible that you are pregnant.
Problem In Ovulation
Meenakshi asks,
I have polycystic ovaries and had a laproscopic surgery done in Nov '07. After that, I have been ovulating only with medicines like Fertyl super, Progynova etc. The egg size has been good - 23mm to 25mm in the last three cycles and we had intercourse on days advised by the doctor. Still, I did not conceive. Semen analysis of my hubby is normal: count - 65million/cc and motility - 60%. Is there anything else that I can do to conceive faster?
Dear Meenakshi,
Your next step is HMG/IUI, to increase the chances of the eggs and sperm meeting.
