Ovulation Induction
Shweta asks,
I have been diagnosed with PCOS. I was married and have undergone treatment. Also I underwent IUI but still did not conceive. However I have gained approx 30 Kgs after marriage. I have been divorced and want to remarry. Can you advise if PCOS can be treated and what is the best way for reducing weight? I walk for an hour daily. Gymming has not made any difference in my weight.
Dear Shweta,
You can learn more about PCOD and your treatment options online. I agree you need ovulation induction with 1500 mg metformin daily. Your chances of conceiving with the right treatment are excellent if you are young.
The effective way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume.
Sperm Meeting
Swati asks,
I am married for 3 years now and trying to conceive for 2 years. I had taken various tests:
- Semen Analysis
- Blood Tests For Reproductive Hormones
- H.S.G
- Diagnostic Lapr
All the above were normal. I have also had 3 IUI done - 2 before and 1 after surgery. What next?
Dear Swati,
You seem to have unexplained infertility. Your next step is HMG/IUI, to increase the chances of the eggs and sperm meeting. If 3 cycles of this fail, then consider IVF. Your chances of conceiving with the right treatment are excellent because you are young.
Pregnancy Precautions
Payal asks,
My name is Payal. I am 6 weeks pregnant. I want to know what precautions should I take? And when should I go for my first ultrasound?
Dear Payal,
No special precautions are required, if you are young and healthy. Enjoy your pregnancy - and read more about the dos and don'ts in the many books and websites, which are available. Most of this is common sense advice. You can do an ultrasound scan at 8 weeks to confirm your baby is healthy. Take your husband with you for the scan - this can be a very exciting time in your life - make the most of it.
Healthy Baby
Souwmya asks,
Is there any medicine for men to get a bigger penis. And is there any medicine to get good and healthy baby as my husband works in an extremely stressed environment and most of the time skips his lunch and / or dinner. He is lean.
Dear Souwmya,
The only way to put on weight is to consume more calories than you burn. Ask him to have small meals frequently throughout the day, so his caloric intake improves.
Infertility Period
Rakesh asks,
My brother is in the infertility period, he has null sperms. Is there any chance of increasing his sperm. Will my sister-in-law ever conceive a child? Please do let me know. What are the solutions to it?
Dear Rakesh,
It appears he has a zero sperm count. This is called Azoospermia. Can you send me the detailed Semen Analysis Report? Volume? Fructose? PH?
Please repeat it again. Do 2 samples, after an interval of 1 hour (sequential ejaculate), and ask them to centrifuge the sample and check the pellet for sperm precursors. Send me this report once you get it. If it's still zero, then the next step is to find out what the reason for the Azoospermia? There are 2 possibilities - obstructive Azoospermia; or non-obstructive Azoospermia. He needs a testis biopsy to determine if sperm are being produced in the testes or not.
A good urologist will do this for you. Ask him to do multiple microbiopsies and send them to the pathology laboratory in Bouin's fluid. Let me know what the report is once you get this.
