Choosing The Right Hair Colour
|
|
While choosing most things, picking something that you like is all that you need to do. But with hair colour, simply choosing a colour that you like - well... it's not that easy.
After all, a colour that you like may not necessarily look good on you but may in fact make you end up looking like a freak. So, it's important that you choose a hair colour carefully.
The most important factors that determine your choice of hair colour are:
- The colour of your skin
- The colour of your eyes
- Your natural hair colour
Choosing hair colour as per your skin: As far as colour of the skin is concerned, most Indians can be divided into two categories - those with a fair complexion and those with a wheatish complexion. If you're really fair, most hair colours will look good on you. For moderately fair people, good hair colours include champagne, cool browns, or ash blonde. However, if you have a pink or reddish tinge to your skin, you should avoid golden blonde and also red hair colour, as these colours will make your skin look even redder.
People who have a wheatish or olive complexion should choose darker hair colours. For instance: Violet, burgundy, and blue tints can look extremely sexy on dark skinned people.
Choosing hair colour based on natural hair colour: If you have naturally dark hair, you should go for shades such as red, copper, and light browns. If your hair is pale in colour, you can try champagne blonde and gold hair colours.
If you have a lot of grey in your hair, the resultant hair colour may not turn out as you expect. In such a situation, it is best to do a hair colour test wherein you colour a small section of your hair to see how a particular colour will look on it.
Another great way to choose a hair colour is to pick one that complements your clothes. After all, no matter how great your hair looks, if the colour clashes with clothes that you generally wear, you'll be in deep trouble.
Open your wardrobe and check what colour your clothes are. Yes, you will have all colours of clothes in your cupboard, but if you see closely you'll realize that the majority of your clothes are either warm coloured or cool coloured.
Warm colours include orange, yellow, pinks, and red. Hair colours that complement these shades are golden brown, auburn, mahogany, and sandy blonde. Cool colours include blues, grey, violet, black, green etc. Hair colours that complement these shades are jet black, ash blonde, platinum, and burgundy. Thus, depending on which colours are more prominent in your wardrobe, you should choose a hair colour accordingly.
Women who are getting married may want to do the same thing with their trousseau. Check which colours feature prominently in your trousseau and then colour your hair such that it suits all your clothes.
Of all the different shades of hair colours, red is the most difficult to maintain. Thus, if you're not up to looking after your hair colour and maintaining it all the time, you may want to avoid red. Those who are interested in using red hair colour should choose coppery reds instead of the bluish red, as coppery undertones provide a more natural looking finish to your hair.
