Godrej RenewTaking Care Of Coloured Hair

Taking Care Of Coloured Hair Wouldn't it be great if we could all enjoy perfectly groomed hair without any effort? That would be possible in a perfect world but since the world is sadly far from perfect, we have to take great care of our hair. Thankfully, there are hair care products that can provide us with shiny beautiful hair.

Hair colouring products available in the retail space today are much more improved than what was available just a few years back. In addition to lending rich colour, they give your hair an amazing shine and also a never before silkiness. However, after having spent money to get that look it is equally important to maintain it. This is why it is absolutely imperative that you know how to care for your hair so as to keep it healthy and make your hair colour work for you!

Pre-colouring Hair Care

Taking good care of your hair after you have coloured it is a given. But did you know that you also need to prepare your hair before you colour it? Yes, here's what you need to do:

  • Get a trim so that your hair is more manageable and the worst of your split ends are out. When your hair is not unruly, your hair colour will look that much better on it.
  • You cannot subject your hair to constant abuse and yet expect it to remain healthy; which means that no chemical processes at least 2-3 weeks before you colour your hair. So, if you do want to get a perm or straighten your locks, make sure you wait for 2 weeks before you colour your hair.
  • Undergo a deep conditioning treatment a few days before you colour your hair. After you shampoo your hair, wait for about two days so that the natural oils in your scalp coat your hair. Now's the perfect time to colour your mane. When you prepare your hair in this manner, your hair colour will set much better and give you a much better shine.
  • Before you deep condition, strengthen your hair with this wonderful home remedy. Mix mayo and egg whites in equal quantity and apply this mixture to your hair for just 10 minutes. Wash and condition regularly and see the amazing difference in your hair.

Post-colouring Hair Care

Taking proper care of coloured hair will help to maintain the colour for longer and also add healthy shine and vitality to your hair. Here's how you can do that:

  • Use a shampoo that is meant for colour treated hair. Such shampoos do not strip away the natural moisture from your hair (regular shampoos do!) and also help to keep the colour soft and fresh.
  • Use a weekly hair mask to prevent the hair colour from fading.
  • Oil, wash, and condition hair at least twice a week so that it remains clean and hair does not get overly dry.
  • Do not blow dry your hair using the hot setting. Use the cool setting instead or try to dry it naturally if possible.
  • Coloured hair tends to be more brittle and soft, which is why you should not comb it when it's wet. Remove the tangles slowly with your fingers or use a wide-toothed comb.
  • If possible, use filtered water to wash your hair or install a water filter for your shower. Yes, this may sound like a lot of trouble to go to, but tap water may contain a lot of chemicals and also other unwanted elements that will make your new hair colour dull and dreary looking.
  • Use a leave-in conditioner for your coloured hair instead of the type that you wash out. Leave-in conditioners offer manageability all day long, and as most of these contain sunscreen, they protect your hair from harsh UV rays too.
  • Chlorine can cause a lot of damage to coloured hair. So, avoid swimming for a few weeks after you colour your hair. If you must, make sure you use a swimming cap and condition your hair before entering the pool.

If you take care of your coloured hair, it will take great care of your looks in turn!
