Types Of Hair Colours
|
Searching for an easy and convenient way to enhance your looks? Why not take a cue from our Bollywood celebrities who walk the red carpet (or the green carpet as was the case at the environment friendly IIFA Awards at Bangkok) with a whole new hairstyle every time?
What we're talking about is colouring your hair!
Without too much effort and with the minimum amount of fuss, you can add some zing to your hair and transform your image completely.
A lot was said about the chemicals in hair colouring products and how these can be bad for you as they can cause hair fall and damage your scalp too. But the products available in the retail space today are made after very strict quality controls and give you all the fun of colouring your hair without the headache.
And the best part is, while Ameesha Patel and Katrina may rely on their beauty experts to colour their crowning glory, changing your hair colour is equally easy to do at home. Let's take a look at the various types of hair colours available nowadays.
Broadly speaking, hair colours can be divided into five different types. To help you sort through the endless variety that you're bound to see on your supermarket shelves, here's a little bit about each of these in turn.
Natural hair colours:
While natural hair colours may not be very popular across the globe, in India they are used quite frequently. Yes, we are referring to 'mehendi' (henna). Henna can give a very nice colour to your hair but if you have even a few strands of grey or white hair, do avoid henna unless you want to end up looking like a carrot!
Temporary hair colours:
As the name suggests, temporary hair colours last for just a couple of weeks and wash out after about 6-10 shampoos. So if it's the first time that you're colouring your hair and are a little nervous about doing so (I completely was!), then it's a good idea to start with a temporary hair colour. What's more, you can try a whole lot of colours that you think may suit you and then go in for one that does so best.
Semi-permanent hair colours:
Such colours last longer than temporary hair colours - usually around 6 weeks. If you're looking to add some shine and bounce to your hair in addition to the new hue, then semi-permanent is the way to go. The best part about such colours is that they fade away gradually and quite naturally so that when your hair grows out you're not left looking like a freak - with white roots and coloured hair!
Permanent hair colours:
If you have a head full of grey hair or if you want your hair to be a completely different colour than it is, then you'll need to go in for a permanent colouring job. While you can do this on your own, the job is best left to a professional. Permanent colours last the longest no doubt, but be aware that such colours will not fade out but will only grow out with new hair growth. So, if you're not willing to keep touching up your roots every few weeks, then be prepared to live with embarrassing roots!
Hair tints:
Tints refer to hair colours that are generally used to highlight, lowlight, and streak your hair and not for a full colour job. If you're the really daring sort, go with a green, purple, or even a pink streak and revel in all the cool looks you get from others!
