Yoghurt not only helps lose weight but also keeps waist slim

Carbohydrate and sugar intake

Rinza asks,
How much carbohydrate should one consume in a day? I have been told carbs are the biggest cause of increase in weight.

Dear Rinza,
A low carb diet helps you to lose weight and still have more energy and lead an active lifestyle. It depends on two factors: Are you on a weight-loss program, or are you planning to maintain good lifestyle and good health on a regular basis. If you are on a low carbohydrate diet, you should consume 25-30 grams of low-carb food for 15 days and then take a break and continue again. Preferably, carbohydrates have to be complex carbohydrate, rich in fibres like fibrous vegetables and fruits. If you do not have a history of diabetes, you can consume carb foods according to the recommendation of your physician. You should check with your doctor first, and get a blood test done before you change your eating habits or modifying your carbohydrate and sugar intake.

Feel hungry and mood swing

Arpitas Sudesh asks,
I am 29 years old. I have one child who is now 1 year 8 months. After my delivery I have put on weight. I am a working woman now and want to reduce weight and keep myself fit and fine. I can't find time to exercise. Feel very hungry all the time especially during the time of my periods my mood swings. I stay in Dubai and I'm a feeding mother. Please help me.

Dear Arpitas Sudesh,
If you are not taking holistic diet, you are depriving your body of certain complex carbohydrates, amino acids and proteins, which will lead you to mood swings. You must have mood swing checks for your body through sonography, blood checks for PC/OD analysis. The best way out for you would be to eat regularly, 5 meals a day. Because, whenever you eat less, you deprive certain important nutrition like triptofen and sugar, and you will feel depressed and mood swing. So, check for family history for diabetes, and add some important vitamins like Vitamin-C, D5, D6, into you diets to avoid mood swings.

Motivation for healthy lifestyle

Maria asks,
What motivation can I use to lose weight? The question of health has no effect, as I am very healthy at age 62. I am energetic and active. I do go to a gym and do the treadmill for 20 minutes and weights. Also I do not lack for social friendship regarding males. I need motivation. Maybe I need someone to tell me I am fat and ugly on a constant basis and this will help.

Dear Maria,
If you are attracted to junk foods and fitness inertia, it means that your spirit needs nourishment. Motivation for you must be nothing but a desire to have a beautiful, healthy body, which must come from within. Indeed it is motivation at work that makes people to make all out effort and achieve certain goal. Always remember that you are the kitchen incharge and what you are going to cook for kids and family members will later on help them develop their eating habits in future. The members of you family are going to change according to your eating habits. You are responsible for healthy shopping and healthy cooking and are accountable for family's health in particular. If you cannot be motivated yourself how can it help other members of family to lead a healthy lifestyle?

Stretch marks

Smitha asks,
I was fat three years back, now I have reduced but this has left stretch marks on my body. How can I get rid of this?

Dear Smitha,
Stretch marks cannot be removed from your body, but can only be reduced upto 30-40 percent. Glycolic acid and food extracts works wonder to reduce the stretch mark. Simultaneously increase proteins, soya foods, and vegetables in your diet. This will help increase the elasticity of your skin and help reduce the sagging of your skin.

Does yoghurt increase weight?

Mital asks,
I am a 23-year-old girl. My height is 5'1" and I weigh 58 kg. I need to reduce my weight. Please advice how to do so without losing the glow of my skin. I love to go on long walks, will that help? I also like to eat yoghurt a lot. Does that in any case increase my weight?

Dear Mital,
Walking along with maintaining active lifestyle will surely help you lose weight. Eating yoghurt is an excellent food, according to the recent studies, of not just losing weight but also of maintaining a slim waist. So you can continue to eat three large servings of yoghurt a day as the calcium helps you stay trim. As apposed to popular notion a low-cal diet actually helps you to increase the glow of your skin. A good low cal diet is one in which you eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Reducing carbohydrates and fat in your diet along with regular exercise will help you shed the kilos faster.
