Meditating Your Way To Health Leena and Manish are your typical modern day couple. Parents of two kids, their days are choc-a-block with home, work, and social responsibilities. Leena hardly gets any time for herself what with school, packing lunches, her part time job, and chores around the house taking up all her time.

Ancient practices such as Meditation and Yoga can be extremely helpful in treating various lifestyle related health problems such as hypertension, high blood sugar levels, obesity, depression, anxiety, asthma, and even heart problems. Meditation helps to relax the mind whereas Yoga helps to stretch the body; a combination of these can have enormous health benefits.

Practicing Yoga And Meditation
Meditation is one aspect of Yoga, the other two being Yoga asanas (exercises) and pranayam (breathing).

Meditation helps you to control your mind instead of being controlled by it. When we can learn to master our thoughts, it is said that we can achieve almost anything, no matter how impossible. Yoga asanas help to make your body more flexible and help to get rid of most physical ailments in the body. Pranayam helps to provide more oxygen to your body, thus enhancing the ability of your bodily organs to heal themselves.

And the best part about these practices is that you can do them practically anywhere and anytime. Even if you have just 10-15 minutes to spare, you can easily complete your daily pranayam and Meditation.

Thus, there really is no excuse not to practice these ancient remedies to relieve modern day health issues.

Beginner's Guide To Meditation
Although you can meditate in several ways, here is a simple Meditation technique that can be followed easily even if you have never meditated before:

  • Seat yourself in a comfortable position, ensuring that your back and head are straight. You can sit on the floor, on a chair, on your bed, or even meditate while travelling in your car.
  • Take 4-5 deep breaths to cleanse your system and help you relax.
  • Keeping your eyes closed, take slow deep breaths through your nose.
  • Try and focus on your breath while breathing in and breathing out. If you find that your thoughts are drifting, which is extremely likely to happen, simply bring your focus back to your breathing.
  • Begin by meditating in this fashion for about 5 minutes. It may seem like too little but in the start even 5 minutes will seem like an eternity. With practice you can increase the time till you are meditating for 20 minutes.

It is best to do your Yoga and Meditation at the same time every day. However, if you do miss your scheduled time, you can do it whenever you get the time, but try to not miss it. If you can stick to a daily regimen, most of your health issues should disappear within months.
