Aqua-Nautics With Anand Pardeshi
|
''You don't need to be a fish to swim'', laughs International and Olympic Swimming Coach, Anand Pardeshi, coach for celebrities and India's shining aquatic stars. He's currently Fitness Coach at The Club, Mumbai.
''Everyone wants a physique like Venus or Hercules,'' believes Pardeshi. ''They just need to know that to realize their dreams all they have to do is start aquatic training. What I mean by this is a combination of spiritual water therapy balanced with resistance and cardio work-outs found in swimming and aquatic fitness."
Whether you're about to get married, are pregnant, have had a child, want to build your body, lose weight, increase endurance, or simply just feel good about yourself Pardeshi insists a dip in the pool is the elixir and cure to most problems.
''I have trained celebrity superstars Rani Mukherjee and Tushar Kapoor. Both started swimming to tone up and increase endurance. Both are extremely fit and diligent sports people in addition to being super stars,'' he says.
''Water is naturally buoyant and has its own natural resistance. You can easily do exercises underwater to strengthen every muscle in your body without causing joint pain. It gives your muscles and body overall toning. Like all exercise regimes one should consult your doctor first. If you don't know how to swim find a qualified instructor. If you are a swimmer and want to include aqua-nautics in your fitness routine, you can get use weights and do leg and arm curls, lifts on the side of the pool in addition to swimming,'' suggests Pardeshi. "I cannot give too many specifics as each individual is different and should have some sort of direct one-on-one counseling with either a fitness coach or certified swimming instructor."
Why swimming?
According to Pardeshi, whether you're 18 or 80 years in age, studies show swimming builds confidence. "You develop a better body image. It is the synchronization of body, mind, hand, and breathing."
"Something as simple as floating is a powerful force in itself. You are one with the water; you are relaxing allowing your body to be lifted by the buoyancy of the water. The meditative effects of floating can not be overstated," says Pardeshi.
Women... swimming is for you!
"Definitely, if you're courting, about to enter matrimony, or in a mid-life crisis swimming is the best therapy," emphasizes Pardeshi. "First of all you want to be comfortable with your self image, your body. Thus wearing a swimming suit is the first step. If you swim regularly, automatically, all the extras follow: you look after you're grooming, you feel more fresh, you are more confident about yourself, and your body image is enhanced. These are all plus points. If you are swimming outdoors you may want to swim early morning or late night to get less tanned," says Pardeshi.
"If you're an older woman or man swimming is known to cure back problems, arthritis, and cardio and asthmatic difficulties. You can enhance your swimming regime with water weight training."
