Be it on the mountains or in the valleys, the seaside or in the plains, you must look your glowing best, for your honeymoon. Cosmetologist Jamuna Pai tells you how.

A beautiful and well-planned wedding is always followed by an exciting honeymoon.
After the hectic schedule of several days of wedding ceremonies, meeting people, attending formal dinners, putting on the bridal smile all the time, the honeymoon is the time you want to relax and be yourself. On the other hand, this is also the time when you want to look the best as naturally as possible. Small skin care tips can help you a lot in accordance with the weather of the place you choose and your skin type.

Dry, cold climate like in the mountains, snowy areas, etc.

Skin care tips for your honeymoonThe most important care required in such a place is to hydrate your skin well, especially if you already have a dry skin. Also take an EP (Evening Primrose oil) capsule.
Even if it is tempting, avoid taking a bath with very hot water. This extracts the essential moisturising ingredients from your skin and leaves it dull and dry. Use luke warm water instead, especially on your face.

Apply a good oil/ water based moisturizer to your skin at least 3-4 times in a day depending on your skin type.
Since the ultra violet rays are very heavy in snowy areas, use a sunscreen regularly before stepping out of your cozy apartments or hotel.

Before retiring to bed, use a good cream-based cleanser to remove the make-up even if you’re too lazy to wash your face. Wash with a soap-free face wash following with an application of a light cream or a moisturiser.

Hot, humid and sunny areas with sea & water sports

Skin care tips for your honeymoonSince the sun exposure will be great in such areas, use a good sunscreen of an SPF of at least 20+ before using any make-up. Avoid oily cosmetic products as these will make you sweat more.

Wash your face frequently with a soap-free cleanser. This will avoid blocking of the skin pores and hence prevent acne and other related problems.

Though most of the sunscreens get washed off once you enter the water, you can still protect your skin to a great extent by using a sunscreen with a higher SPF of 50+. Also take an ordinary tap water bath as soon as you are out of the pool and massage your face and body with an oily moisturizer.

While in the sea/water, diving or swimming you may get a skin rash which may be a little itchy. Also a jelly fish or any other sea animal bite could be a cause of worry. Immediately apply a little after-shave lotion to it. Take an anti-allergy tablet like levocetrizine at night and apply calamine lotion. Also use a lotion like mometasone or desonide over the rash.

General tips:
  1. Personal hygiene is a very important aspect. Use of eau de cologne in the bath water, deodorants and perfumes help to a great extent. Use a nice talcum powder with a flowery fragrance for the more sweaty areas, and a light sensual perfume.
  2. A 'beard-rash' is very common during the honeymoon. This may lead to a burning sensation if the bride's skin is sensitive. Apply a little calamine lotion and a little desonide lotion over the rash.
  3. Contraception. By now you must have already consulted your gynaecologist on this aspect. You have to discuss with your spouse when you want to start your family and go ahead accordingly.
  4. "Honeymoon cystitis" is the fancy name given by the doctors to the urinary infection very common in young brides characterized by burning and pain during urination. It is a common problem and nothing to worry about. Drink lots of water and consult a doctor for the correct antibiotic. Usually a five-day course of an antibiotic is required.
  5. Be happy, eat well, sleep and come back to start life on a very positive note - filled with love and confidence.
