Henna For Early Greying
Geenu asks,
My hair is turning grey and due to this reason I have coloured it. But the problem arises when the colour fades away and my hair retains back to its original colour. Kindly suggest something.
Dear Geenu,
Early greying of hair is usually genetic, hence nothing much can be done about it. We can only delay the process of greying. You can take a combination of Calcium with B-Complex daily for 3 months. I would recommend henna to other hair dyes. It will dye the grey hair, a nice shade of burgundy giving your hair great highlights.
Hormonal Imbalance Leads To Skin Problems
Ranjeet asks,
I am a 27 yrs old, dark complexioned unmarried girl. My problem is that in spite of having medicines and treatment for almost 10 yrs my pimples are not cured. It's not only pimples but also hyper pigmentation, blemishes and scars marks on my face that are bothering me. And because of this I am not getting married. I am very worried.
Dear Ranjeet,
Acne is a result of hyperactive oil glands, which in turn is influenced by hormones. In PCOD, male hormone becomes dominant which suppresses the effect of female hormone. The ideal treatment would be a hormonal pill, which corrects the cause. Consult a dermatologist to rule out this. For blemishes and scars we have variety of treatment like microdermabrasion, glycolic acid and fruit acid peel. 4-6 sittings are required at an interval of 4-6 weeks to get the desired results.
Itchy skin
Puja asks,
I came to UK six months back. And I am facing a very strange problem of itchy skin. I have consulted doctor for medicines but the outcome is not so impressive. Kindly advice on the same.
Dear Puja,
General itching of the skin could be due to dryness. You can use coconut oil all over the body before bath. Use soap with deep moisturizing effect like Aquasoft / Oilatum, follow it with a deep moisturizing cream like Efaderm/ Emolene every 3-4 hrs. If the itching is severe you can take an anti-allergic tablet at night for a week. Also consult a dermatologist to rule out any underlying skin disorder.
Swollen Lips Caused By Allergy
Nick asks,
My lips gets swollen almost everyday. I do not know what is causing this, sometime the lips get normal, but mostly it's puffy and swollen. I do not have any pain, but it looks bad. Do you know what is causing this?
Dear Nick,
The condition you described seems to be Angio-oedema. 20% of the population suffer from this. This is a symptom attributed to an allergy in the body. The cause can be anything from dust, pollen grains, milk, food, drugs and shell-fish. Treatment consists of identifying and eliminating the cause. In most cases family history of asthma, eczema and morning sneezing is found. You can take Anti-histamines orally.
Lipstick Allergy
Kanupriya asks,
Whenever I use lipstick my lips gets cracked and bleed. I buy new branded lipsticks but still I am suffering from same problem.
Dear Kanupriya,
Use a lipstick with a built in moisturizer to reduce the dryness. Internally you can take oil capsules like evening primrose oil once a day. Also you can use deep moisturizing cream containing glycerine 2-3 times a day.
