Sunscreen v/s Fairness Cream
Rajinder asks,
I have so many pimples on my face I have tried a lot of things but nothing works. I used medicine as well. Could you please help me out? My skin colour also became black I want fair and nice clear skin.
Dear Rajinder,
Complexion is genetically determined. All you have to do is take a good care of it. Use a good sunscreen (SPF 20 or above) to avoid tanning, which would be more effective than fairness creams. Glowing complexion comes with a healthy lifestyle, good balanced diet, plenty of water, exercise and mental relaxation. You can take complete course of antibiotics, which will cure your pimples permanently. Also deworming once in 6 months will help. Creams containing Hydroquinone, Azelaic acid, Vitamin C when applied at night will help in lightening the complexion.
Burn Marks
Sunil asks,
My wife's facial skin is darker than her body as well as she has burn marks on her hands. This looks ugly. Are there any solution or remedy that can improve these problems?
Dear Sunil,
Exposed areas tend to be darker than rest of the body. Using a sunscreen is the best way to prevent this from happening. Use a good sunscreen (SPF 20 or above) 3-4 times a day. Use a good moisturizing cream at night. And use skin-lightening creams containing Hydroquinone / Vitamin C / Kojic acid at night to lighten the skin tan. There are varieties of peels like Glycolic acid / Fruit acid peel. Make sure a trained professional does it. 4-6 sittings are required at an interval of 4-6 weeks to get the desired results.
Burnt scar could be raised or flat. Raised scar is called Keloid, which can be made flat by using a cream made up of Heparin sodium (Contractubex, Scarnil) at night for one month. If it is a flat scar consult a cosmetic surgeon for scar revision.
Boils After Waxing
Naval asks,
My skin has become dull and there are lots of pores open and it is pimple prone skin. I get boils on my legs and face after waxing.
Dear Naval,
Boils filled with pus after waxing occurs mostly in case of hormonal imbalance. In this condition male hormone is dominant which makes the skin very sensitive. Consult a dermatologist to rule out this. Never ever wax your face, chest, back. You can shave your hair. The best option is definitely laser hair removal. You can take anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory tablet one day prior doing any procedure. Also antibiotic belonging to Azithromycin group once a day for 6 days would help.
Scalp Infection
Mayuri asks,
My scalp has been affected with fungal infection and this is due to dandruff. I have patches on my scalp due to the infection and there is tremendous hair fall? So please suggest something?
Dear Mayuri,
Dandruff is nothing but flaking of the dead skin cells. Fungal infection is the most common cause. Use an antidandruff shampoo containing Ketoconazole / Selenium sulphide once / twice a week to keep the hair free of dandruff. A course of anti-fungal tablets once a week for 4 weeks under medical supervision will help.
