Beauty routine for men before d-day

For the meterosexual man whoever dramatised 'the glowing bride" has heartlessly ignored the poor bride groom. It is the most important day in his life as well. Thankfully the meterosexual male has arrived and it is reassuring to know that he is here to stay.

Beauty routine for men before d-day Facials / clean ups work for both men as well as women. Do whichever is suitable for you, 2 to 3 days prior to the wedding. Of course if you have time on hand, you can start treatments well in advance. Black heads are quite a problem with many males. Use a good scrub / soap especially for oily skin. Use an astringent at night, it dries up the blackheads and they consequently get removed easily. Black heads can be removed after steaming and extraction but this should only be done by a professional and never attempted on your own.

If you have pimples, dandruff etc, get it treated by a skin specialist. Men do get their hair lasered especially when it is hard and unruly on the abdomen, chest, legs, beard, ears. Laser over 3 to 6 sessions softens the quality of hair and makes it more manageable. Glycolic peels can be done for acne scars, pigmented patches, open pores or just dull lifeless skin. These can be undertaken at monthly intervals, best done under medical supervision.

Microdermabrasion or skinpolishing helps to remove the top, damaged, pigmented scaly layer of the skin and presents a smoother, softer and clearer skin. It can be done once in 3 to 4 weeks or can be combined with facials, peels for the desired effect.

Summer is here and it is always harsh on the skin, whether it is a tan, a sunburn, greasiness of the skin, certain sun allergies or basic fungal and bacterial infections are possible. How to prevent getting greasy, tanned etc., here are a few tips to help overcome these.
  • Wash your face at least 3 to 4 times a day with a suitable soap to remove the extra oils and help the face feel fresh at all times.

  • Use an astringent at night especially if you are prone to black / white heads.

  • Use a sunscreen regularly to prevent tanning and skin allergies. If you are going to be out, make sure you reapply the sunscreen after 3 to 4 hours.

  • Have a shower 3 to 4 times a day.

  • Stick to cotton and avoid synthetic clothing as it tends to make you sweat more, thereby providing an environment for fungal, bacterial infections to thrive.

  • Dust antifungal powder in the skin folds especially if you are prone to fungal infections or excessive sweating.

  • Avoid excessive oil based make up.

  • Drink plenty of water and fresh juices to avoid dehydration.

  • Open sandals are a sensible option.

  • Wash hair more often and use a good anti dandruff shampoo once a week if needed.
Tips on the best way to manicure / pedicure.
A manicure / pedicure is essential for both males as well as females. It not only removes the excess dead skin but also rehydrate and moisturises the much used and abused hands and feet. Hygiene is of primary importance in whichever place you choose to do your manicure/ pedicure.

Make sure the instruments are sterilised and blades used are disposed. The cuticle is dead skin which seals the point of attachment of nail to the overlying skin. If the manicure / pedicure is too aggressive and cuticle completely removed, it will serve as an entry point for bacteria / fungi and the infections thereby sustained are difficult to treat. If you have a pre-existing fungal infection of nails, avoid altogether. Paraffin is a good emollient, it moisturises the skin, keeps it supple and when warm, increases the blood circulation. Make sure the nails are cut straight to avoid ingrowths / fungal infection.
