Brown Patches
Ruchika asks,
I was suffering from blemishes (pigmented skin) and this has left brown patches on my cheeks. Can you please tell me if these patches will go or not, as I have consulted a lot of dermatologists in Delhi but none of them have been able to help? I have been taking treatment for the past 11 months and have spent a major chunk of my savings but to no avail. I am extremely depressed.
Dear Ruchika,
Don't be depressed at all. Brown patches on cheeks is called Melasma. It is attributed to hormonal changes, stress and hence unfortunately it does not go 100%. We can help in lightening to a certain extent. There are a variety of peels like glycolic acid, fruit acid peels. 4-6 sittings are required at an interval of 4-6 weeks to get the desired results. You can use mixture of creams containing Azelaic acid, Kojic acid and Vitamin C at night. Also oral supplements of antioxidant, iron, and Vitamin C will help in lightening to a certain extent.
Inflammatory Hyper Pigmentation
Candice asks,
I have black marks on my legs. Each time I get a cut or sore, it turns black and never goes away. Marks eventually go away from the other parts of my body. How can I get rid of these marks and what is the cause of it?
Dear Candice,
Marks following cuts or sores are called post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation. Some people have a tendency for this. You can do variety of treatments like skin polishing, glycolic acid peel or fruit acid peel. 4-6 sittings are required at an interval of 4-6 weeks to get the desired results. Also creams containing Vitamin C, Kojic acid and Hydroquinone when applied at night will help in lightening.
Hyperactive Oil Glands
Jim asks,
I am 25 years old and have acne all over my back. I have very oily skin and none of the creams work. I think I have a hormonal problem. Can this be corrected by using Vitamin A supplements along with B Complex?
Dear Jim,
Acne is a result of hyperactive oil glands, which can occur due to hormonal imbalance. In case of hormonal imbalance, male hormone is dominant which suppresses the effect of female hormone. Consult a dermatologist to rule out this. The ideal treatment would be a hormonal pill, which corrects it. Vitamin A and B-Complex shrinks the oil glands without correcting the cause and hence give drying effects. It helps in flaking the top layers of skin. Wash your face with a face wash for oily skin 2-3 times a day. Use a multani mitti pack once or twice a week. Use a sun block (SPF 20 or above) 2-3 times a day.
Skin Lightening Pack
XYZ asks,
I am 25 years old. I have very oily skin and wheatish complexion. I have pimples on my face and they even leave scars and tiny pores have formed. I clean my face twice daily with a good face wash. Please tell me which moisturisers I can use and home made packs to lighten my scars and complexion.
Dear XYZ,
Since you have oily skin use a face wash meant for oily skin 2-3 times a day. Use multani mitti pack once or twice a week depending on the oiliness. Use a moisturiser, which is oil free or oil control. Make a pack of grated almond, cucumber and oats. Add a spoon of yoghurt, milk and apply on the face. Leave on for 15 mins and wash off in a circular motion.
Facial Hair
Chytra asks,
I have lot of hair on my face, its not very thick, but keep coming very often. I pluck it with an eyebrow plucker whenever it grows. Please give me a solution.
Dear Chytra,
Laser hair removal with "Light Sheer Diode" is the best option. Thicker the hair, better the results. 4-6 sittings are required at an interval of 4-6 weeks to get the desired results.
