Heavy hips
Yutika asks,
I am 43 years old, female, with 2 children. Height 160 cms, weight 56 kgs. My weight seems normal, but I have a small and thin upper body frame, and my hips / thighs are relatively large. I am jogging / walking daily for 3 months but am losing neither weight nor reducing hips / thighs. Can you suggest a diet for me?
Dear Yutika,
Start your day with a good breakfast, which can be an egg with a slice of whole wheat bread, or 1 cup of upma / poha etc. with a cup of milk. After about 2 hrs have some fruit. For lunch have 2 phulkas with vegetables and either 1 cup dal or 1 piece of grilled or poached chicken or fish or 1/2 cup of low fat paneer with lots of salad and 1 cup curd. Snack on fruits and roasted chana . Dinner can be the same as lunch. Along with some exercise, you are bound to lose weight.
Weight gain
Shweta asks,
I'm a 23 year old and my height is 160 cms. But my weight is 41 kgs only. Please suggest something so that I can gain some weight. I eat a lot but it's of no use as I'm not able to put on weight. What should I eat?
Dear Shweta,
In order to gain weight, you need not eat too much. Make sure that you eat a good breakfast and include at least 3 servings of milk and milk products, 4 servings of fruits, dry fruits like dates, figs and walnuts and 2 servings of salad in your diet along with you regular diet. This will ensure that you get all the nutrients you need and will improve your metabolism.
Ideal weight and diet
Aysha Abbas asks,
My current weight is 65 kg and my height is 5.2" / 5.3". Do I have the right weight? I am trying to lose weight because I have some fat on my stomach, legs, hips and thighs. I also exercise for 1 hour or sometime 30 mins. 3 to 4 days in a week. Can you please give me the best diet plan?
Dear Aysha,
You should weigh about 52 - 55 kgs so you definitely need to lose some weight. For breakfast have an egg with a slice of whole wheat bread or a veg sandwich or upma / poha with a cup of skimmed milk. Have a fruit in between. For lunch have 2 phulkas or 1 with some veggies, 1 cup of dal or a piece of chicken or fish, salads and a cup of curd. In between you can snack on chana and fruits. Dinner can be the same as lunch. Make sure you drink plenty of water, eat at least 4 servings of fruits and 2 servings of salad daily.
Diet after delivery
Wafah asks,
I am a 29 year old living in Toronto, Canada. I have always been very healthy and slim i.e. 100 lbs. However, since my marriage last year, I started putting on weight around my hips, stomach, and buttocks. Now, I am 6 months pregnant, and getting really fat. I've increased consumption of veggies and fruits. Nevertheless, what kind of exercise or diet should I follow in order to go back to my normal weight after the delivery?
Dear Wafah,
Make sure that you do not follow a weight reducing diet while you are pregnant. After the baby is born, you need to follow a good balanced diet. Have 3 servings of skimmed milk and milk products, a bowl of green leafy veggies, 2 servings of salads along with healthy meals. What you need to avoid are excessive amounts of ghee / butter / oil, cheese and fried foods.
Travel diet
Sneha asks,
I am 18 years old. I am a healthy person. But I suffer from constipation when I travel. I am very afraid because of this problem. What is the proper diet I should take when I travel?
Dear Sneha,
While travelling take care to drink lots of water and eat fruits and vegetables. Try to relax as many times; constipation is caused due to stress. Avoid cabbage, onions and refined foods such as bread, noodles and pastas made from maida . Bananas, papaya and figs help to prevent constipation. Walking or any other exercise also helps to relieve constipation.
