One piece wonders
Style gurus predict jewellery trend 2007
|
New year is already 'in' and you are still confused how to change your look this year? Go for a bit of jewellery shopping girl and be ready to rock the world!
After ruling the hearts for the last 3 years chandelier earrings have died a natural death this year. This time women will go for shorter earrings and will highlight their necklines with their pendants and necklaces. Pendents or necklaces are going to be big for the evenings as the clothes are simple and muted colours like greys, off-whites, beiges and rose pinks will dominate the wardrobe. While some would like to go white this time with diamonds, pearls, platinum and white gold, others would stick to the golden age.
Says jewellery designer Shobha Asar, "The unusual will make a style statement this year as the tastes are changing, whether it's jewellery or clothes. People don't want to see run-of the mill designs. They want jewellery which is customised to their needs and style." So if you are bold enough you can bling with an antique finish like blackened metal, she prescribes.
Less is more
Chunkier jewellery will set a trend this year as people would like to stick to a single piece of jewellery and would want it to be noticeable and make a statement. "For a casual look or light occasion people will prefer to wear either just a pair of big earrings, a chunky bracelet, a pendent or even just a ring," adds jewellery designer Rhea Nasta.
"Less is definitely more," agrees Chhaya Momaya, lifestyle and grooming expert and one to be spotted on Page 3 regularly. Long pendant necklaces, wide cuffs, chunky bracelets and slim chains around the waist will be seen on ladies this season. "The fashion stores of New York are flooded with precious and semi precious coloured stone jewellery for funky wear. Long beaded necklaces are done to death. This year you can sport a longish choker or long earrings (not necessarily chandeliers) as they will add a lot of glamour to your face. Also women are going for armlets instead of a bracelets with sleeveless tops. International branded jewelery is very popular now and one Christian Dior choker with a halter top will draw all the attention. Bejeweled belts are very much in fashion too. This time I would love to hop into the parties dressed in a skinny pair of jeans, a white sleeveless shirt with a fancy bejeweled belt right below the bust line and an armlet. This would be my 2007 look!" she defines.
Golden rules
Gold is back in fashion this year. "Definitely we are back to yellow look with or without beads, diamonds or gemstones," says Rhea. This year diamonds with colour stones of unusual combinations and crystals will be hot selling items. "Yellow rhodium, pink rhodium, black rhodium on rubies and emeralds will be really in this year," adds Shobha Asar.
Casual hoop-las to cocktail calchedony
For a casual look hoops and huggies, preferable with little charms or colour stones dangling from them will rule. Young college girls will also love light weight chandeliers with loose bracelets. " I'm a very casual dresser and hardly wear much accessories. I think balis or hoops with little dangling trinkets will suit my look," says the bubbly actress Nauheed Cyrusi. "For a party I would love to sport a chunky western brand with an Indian touch, while for weddings I would surely be wearing some classic jewellery in gold and diamond," she adds.
