Gaba - The Beauty Of Rural India
|
Working with the ikat technique of Andhra Pradesh and resist printing and dyeing of Akola in Rajasthan, the GABA label presented by Aneet Arora and Chinar Farooqui showed an almost Franco/Italian line of layered smocks, dresses, skirts, culottes and Bermudas with the wonderful rumaals, tied in peasant style on the heads.
The colours were muted down to grey, black, off-white, brown and indigo with motifs that were blended with the stripes and solids for multiple garments worn in groups. The relaxed almost loose silhouettes, the wide salwar pants, the shrugs with pleated peplums, the yoked smocks with multi fabrics and flares in crushed or crinkled fabrics, were part of a collection which could be worn together or as separates without much difficulty.
The beauty of GABA is that one season's garments almost blend with the next, thereby giving the buyer numerous options through the years.
