Rohit Bal Paints It Blue
|
In the grand finale of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, ace designer Rohit Bal showed a collection which took inspiration from the ancient city of Constantinople and the Byzantine design language.
The characteristic blues of the glazed tiles as they still can be admired in the blue mosque of Istanbul were translated into a range of evening gown silhouettes with volume. The collection also included classic sherwanis that were richly embellished with arabesque motifs in all shades of turquoise, blue and silver.
The presentation of the collection Siyaahi started with a story of ivory, ecru and sand chiffons which were constructed into ensembles, pleated and draped with origami folds, cone shaped skirts, over-dimensioned puff sleeves and ballet inspired tutus.
Huge leafy creepers in silver were running across voluminous long skirts. Long elegant overcoats and vest came in elaborate jacquards and richly embroidered silks.
The men’s wear consisted mainly of sleek well-constructed classic sherwanis with long slits, which made the contrasting lining visible.
A blend of fluid materials with velvet borders and intricate linear quilting created opulence for women's wear. There was rushing as well and a range of corset dresses with super-volume skirts attached to the tops. The skirts were constructed from abundance of organza or chiffon panels.
A range of vivid greens in combination with charcoal, Prussian blue and chocolate brown. One of the most popular elements appreciated in the Turkish culture is the blue glass symbol, which Rohit Bal translated into giant motifs in sequin work and appliqué work.
Volume as well as colours created a well-received extravaganza, which had its climax in innocent dresses that suddenly were bleeding blue colour - a well-conceptualised quotation of royalty.
The highlight of the show was other famous designers like Rajesh Pratap Singh and Ritu Kumar who took to the ramp for Rohit Bal.
