Nikasha Tawadey: Simplicity At Its Zenith
|
She's talented, beautiful and self-trained... and we may add extremely gifted too. Nikasha Tawadey (label Nikasha) certainly had the crowd gasp and gush as models displayed simplicity and freshness in zenith.
Clearly the appeal of the clothes is their wearability - easily transformed from day to night, the ability for all ages of women to wear them with confidence and the display of a motley blend of cultures through regional craft, international cuts, and European style.
The collection was presented in inter-changeable components with each piece chiseled and designed with emotion and nostalgia - a paean to an era of femininity. What made a difference was the contemporary intelligence allowing the garment to be worn in today's fast-paced society without seeming odd.
Also the soft flowing garments were unconstructed and designed in soft hues of beiges, creams, rose, pewter and whites. They were offset with hand woven embroidered threadwork and artistically embellished lace that gave the collection an ethereal and timeless quality.
Her insight into contemporary ethnicity with "dhoti" styled pants with a swirl of numerous pleats worn at the waist was exceptional. The pants were gorgeous in their craftsmanship and artistry. Easily worn with kurta, choli or a romantic blouse.
In contrast, Nikasha also showed easy flowing wide-leg pants which were intricately decorated with lace, and thread-work paired with a loose A-line blouse. Flowing coats in all lengths added a richness and modern romantic feel of the show. Coats were paired with tight lycra pants or cozy leggings. Her canvas was monochromatic and stayed close to the designer's vision of "naturalness" as defining its own lexicon of glamour and sophistication.
Textures ranged from natural fibres, mixed viscoses, and flimsy chiffons to translucent silks.
Models wore their hair in tight pony tails glossed and bouncy. Skirts were layered and tightly cinched at the waist and contrasted with peasant style and poetry, balmain shaped blouses cut high on the bodice with vertical pleats adding flounce without the weight of too much fabric, allowing for a more lean look to the overall structure.
In the audience were the mediaratti from Harpers, Vogue, Elle all of whom have distinguished Nikasha in the past for her combination of sensibilities of fashion and technical prowess in design.
