Wedding Wear - Melodramatic Mermaid Looks
|
Summer weddings remind one of Monet, larger than life canvasses washed in poetic water-coloured romantic fabrics diluted by pastel memories of an era long gone. So it should come as no surprise that along with the revival of royalty at all leading ateliers with the perfunctory evoking of earthy Indian crafts like chikan, ari, sequence and beadwork brides are looking for a way to look rich, opulent as well as summery and chic!
Women today, especially brides, dress to complement their décor, groom, and nature. They seek to present their aura and mystique with perfection on their important day. In finding the perfect ensemble for their demanding clients, many Indian designers are glancing West-to-European based courtiers' prowess to create full-length wisps of satin and silk blanketed with ruffles, sequins, pearls, and appliqués in addition to mandatory swarovski crystals, ethnic badla, and tila work.
Desi Designers seem unified in giving their stamp of approval to the mermaid lehenga or the western evening gown. The Mermaid lehenga is a slim fitted skirt shaped to your body with a tight bodice. It can be worn with a bustier, long choli or traditional sari type blouse. And keeping pace with the art nouveau look is the latest trend in making a decision on line. It is not uncommon to find many NRIs ordering their wedding wear on-line.
Shaaditimes caught up with Neeta Paul of Neeta Paul Creations to find out why the Mermaid Lehenga or a western type ball gown may be the look you're after if you're tying the nups this year.
"The look is Western but the work and embellishments are traditional. So it's mostly a combination of Western and traditional," says Paul.
She observed, "Most Indian woman don't have model perfect bodies and are shorter and more voluptuous. This look works well on woman of any size provided it's been cut and tailored properly." She continues, "This also works well with the summer months as the pastels look strong and rich against the badla and heavy gold/silver work. Also if the bride wants to wear something less heavy it can be made in a range of different lighter weight fabrics from chanderis, organzas, organdy, chiffon or a combination accented by brocade or zari borders and appliqué work."
According to Paul, this is the one day from her tiara to her jootis perfection prevails. Thus, the jewellery, accessories, hair, make-up, can either enhance or take away from the beauty of the gown. "Most importantly it is the bride's day and what enhances her is what counts."
