"We use more embroidery, more sequence, more colours, and more fabric," he laughs and continues, "Our dress sense is governed by religion, region in addition to fashion. The Indian bride will always stick with the fire colours from yellow to red despite fashion changes." He adds, "An Indian woman will spend a fortune on accessories abroad, but she will spend the same amount of money on a designer outfit made in India as opposed to buying it abroad."
So will the populous have a chance to wear his luscious lehengas or chic corsets?
"No I don't want to sell my hard work so inexpensively. So much time and effort has gone into each design, each concept." What does he have to say about people that steal designs? "I believe that if you have the chutzpah, you will have the staying power. You can copy maybe one or two designs but to continuously copy someone else's concepts and not get caught would take a lot of work... plus I believe clients are discerning enough with brand loyalty to see a pattern and merit."
