Couturiers Anjalee-Arjun Unveil Their Look Of Luxe For 2008
January 23rd, 2008: Designers Anjalee & Arjun Kapoor present their collection for the season with a grand Victorian fashion showing at the Grand Hyatt Mumbai today.
Saluting Mumbai as they complete six months in the city, Anjalee-Arjun Kapoor unveil their look for 2008. Presenting men's wear and women's wear, they add their jewellery line for evolved fashionistas. Selecting Mumbai for their first signature store, Anjalee-Arjun find an instant connect between their design sense and that of the city's couture patrons.
Poetry comes alive in the 'Anjalee & Arjun Women's Wear Collection 2008'. A new richness laced with medieval luxe pervades all. Mogul motifs combine Victorian embellishment techniques of leafing and appliqués in tissue as luscious silk creates a very three-dimensional appeal. Burnished gold and silver compliments precious stones and crystal as floral motifs in acrylic and tissue get interspersed with semi precious stones: Rock emerald, ruby, turquoise and aquamarine get encrusted on the garments.
Fitted forms compliment fluid chiffons and crepes. Indian skirts hug the body as sensual bodices lend an enticing feminity. A very oriental wrap technique emerges in some of the bridal gowns as sassy chiffon saris get worn with hipster belts. Textual rushing, felting, pleating and pin tucks give a very interesting form to the Indian kurta. Asymmetric hemlines and bold necklines lend a very western silhouette to the tunic as shalwars and palazzos in sheer chiffons add a sassy, sexy appeal.
The colour palette exudes past restraint as nudes blend with pastels and bold colours peep through. Subtle shades of rose, silver, mint, aquamarine and lime get interpreted with primary colours through a very new layering technique.
The Anjali - Arjun Kapur Men's wear Collection 2008 infuses men's wear with their signature style of regal opulence. Presenting Grooms personified, the collection comprises of sherwanis in hand woven brocade and silks. Embellished, bejewelled and embroidered in rich heritage the sherwanis are stunning. Impeccable Bandhgalas, sharp Jodhpurs, short sherwanis complete the look of formality.
The designers define their groom as, "Someone who has the consistency to honour age-old commitments with exacting standards of quality. The one who balances both with élan and himself emerges as the legend".
The colour palette brings pastels and bold colours together. The designers accessorize the collection with jootis, stoles, kamarbandhs, tani brooches and bejewelled kalgis.
For this designer duo Drama meets restraint and fables flow along the quiet bank of reality.
