According to Dr Tushar Guha, personality development counsellor, "when getting ready for a first date, be sure to get a haircut and a smooth shave." Another little pointer is to ensure that your nails are clean because the last thing you want is to have her staring at your nails throughout the entire conversation. A good perfume and a fresh breath always acts as a turn on. Check yourself from burping in public or being impolite to the waiter as these can act as major turn offs. A neat and clean appearance with a gentlemanly behaviour acts as guaranteed bonus.
Feel 'special' factor
According to John Gray, author of Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, men should take the initiative in planning the date and should expect to make the arrangements and pay the bills at least for the first few dates and definitely on the first one. Taking responsibility like this will relieve the woman of it and allow her to be taken care of and be treated as 'special'. However, we are fast catching up the western culture and some girls prefer to go Dutch. So give in if she insists.
Little things can separate you from other men, and give you an edge towards getting a second date with your dream girl. "Let your body language be positive. Pay attention to her and try to continue an interesting conversation. Dwell on common interests and get to know about each other's likes and dislikes on general interests like food, music, movies, books, friends etc. Try not to be too personal on the very first meet," advices Dr Guha. "Be cordial and warm and do not be too rigid with your view points. Try to be good listener and let her express herself too. Do not go overboard with 'I' factor or try to show off your strengths. But again do not be too discreet about yourself as you might loose your credibility. Do not forget your sense of humour and finally do not forget to appreciate the lady and pay a genuine compliment," he adds.
