Now that you have won a date with her, make sure that your first impression is a lasting one. So after the rendezvous is fixed, it's time for you to figure out what you are going to wear. It's the era of metro sexual men. So today's man must be ready to dress to impress, particularly on a first date.
"Impressing with an attractive outfit is not the substitute for self-confidence or a positive attitude, but it definitely gives her a good first impression and makes your chances of landing your second date much brighter," says fashion designer Jattin Kochchar. "The thumb rule is to keep it simple cause simplicity can never really ever go out style. Also you are guaranteed to give her the right impression and avoid a fashion faux pass which can be a big turnoff for many women," he adds.
Avoid extremes
"It's a good idea to be a little more conservative on the first date. When you get to know the person a little more, you can start showing off the risky side of your wardrobe," cautions Jattin. Stay away from something too tight or revealing. This applies to men with good bodies as well as those who are less fit. Let her wonder what you look like under the shirt or sweater. Allowing her imagination to run wild is a simple trick that adds an element of mystique.
There is nothing wrong with wearing a fitted T-shirt to show off your chiselled frame, but don't overdo it. On the other hand, if you are a little heavier, wear something little less revealing and camouflage areas you don't want her to see. Having a successful first date is all about presentation and your first impression is crucial, so don't blow it by revealing too many of your physical attributes.
A clean and crisp look always counts. Jeans may be fine for the occasion, but be sure they are wrinkle-free, not tattered and fit well. Though ripped jeans and a stubble make a style statement, it is better avoided for a first date. Another simple way to reveal bits of your personality is to wear your favorite colour. Hues tell a lot about the wearer.
T-shirt trauma
"One quick step to help you seem like a simple, classy dresser is to avoid T-shirts with beer, sports or rock group logos. You don't want to come off looking like a frat boy who indulges in booze and sports all day. So cut the adolescent mode out and wear something neutral instead. Just stay away from a top with a big logo or flashy lettering," says Jattin.
If you are a T-shirt guy, wear plain black, gray or white. Plain T-shirts are stylish, simple and basically go with anything you have in your wardrobe. This is also the year of cool casual shirts with bright and colourful prints. Cargoes, the classic boot cut and caprice are really hot for the metro-look.
Polished sole
Fashionable, clean and polished shoes are also a must on your first date because they can reveal a lot about your personality and complete your overall look. Many women judge men by their shoes, which sounds silly, but is very true. A man, who takes care of his appearance, including a "small" detail such as footwear, is likely to take care of his apartment, his car, and in the future, her! Comfortable sports shoes and soft moccasins can make you stand out.
Minimal accessories
Being simple on the first date also consists of keeping accessories to a minimum. "Women want men to look like men, keeping accessories down to watch and ring is just fine," adds Jattin. It's better not to show her much and let her judge you on your conversation rather that what you are wearing. For example, if you show up with an extremely tight T-shirt, an assortment of jewelery and tattoos plastered all over your arms, chances are she will be distracted by all the superficial elements and won't give you the sincere chance you deserve.
