Sparkle With Festive Fervour

The festive season is just around the corner and to know what's in vogue this season, Shaaditimes caught up with designer duo Anjalee & Arjun Kapoor and Surily Goel.

Anjalee & Arjun Kapoor:

Hailing from the capital, this designer jodi is famous for their exquisite festive ensembles and designs for the contemporary bride / groom. Their festive collection combines old world decadence with fashionable elegance.

Their signature touch incorporates traditional motifs and embroideries in new designs and that's what they say is the USP of their festive collection for 2007.

According to Anjalee & Arjun Kapoor, 'Our designs are true to modern times, with the collection being painstakingly crafted for women and men who value traditional richness and brilliance, yet love a modern silhouette'.

Here's what the duo feel rocks this festive season:

Get Classy
  • The designers give their thumbs up to ornate and rich designs but in a sublime understated way.
  • Embellishments in sequins, bead work, trimmings, lace, crystals and swavroski, antique work and zardozi is really big this season and it also creates a look that is classic and breathtaking.
  • Corsets with fine detailing in zardozi are another favourite, which can be teamed up with a chiffon, an embellished lehenga or a hep knee-length zardozi skirt.
  • Traditional saris, lehengas and other trousseau essentials like embroidered cholis and fish tail skirts are also in vogue.
  • For a more western look you can pick up a nice flowing evening gown or a kimono style wrap dress, which is quite popular these days.

Play With Colours Play With Colours
  • Red, burgundy, wine and plum are the shades to die for this season and they help creating a look, which is feminine and luscious.
  • Anjalee Kapoor opines that light colours such as whites, creams and pastels too are prevalent in current trends with saris and lehengas, with a wide use of colourful thread work embroidery.
  • However, you can also chose the shades olives, butterscotch and caramels for a more contemporary look.

Fabrics To Flaunt Fabrics To Flaunt
  • Soft and rich silks, crepes, georgettes, chiffons for light wear and satins in a striking colour scheme are reborn this season.

Lastly, accentuate your look with a nice couture bag or a batua as per your outfit. In jewellery, chose traditional Gold or Silver jewellery. For a more contemporary look go for diamonds or pearl jewellery.

Surily Goel:

Unlike Anjalee and Arjun Kapoor, celebrity designer Surily Goel's festive collection is in sync with the latest trends where she uses a lot of nude shades and thread work embroidery.

Says Surily, 'The bright and festive colour palate and obsequious dress silhouettes make this collection very different from my earlier ones. The collection is more timeless.'

Here's what Surily feels will rule the festive season:

Looks matter Looks Matter
  • Surily's festive range consists not only of traditional saris and lehengas but also of very modern, well-fitted outfits for evening functions and parties.
  • Saris in georgette, embellished with opaque stones and coloured crystals is what she gives her thumbs up to.
  • However, Surily's look for the season is nude, red and black saris with black opaque stone-work teamed with a fancy black blouse that has little gold bows on the straps.

Colour palette Colour Palette
  • The colours that are in vogue are bright reds for lehengas and a combination of reds and blacks or nudes and black for saris and kurtas.

Sweet Sixteen
  • A special element this season is the panelling. In Surily's collection the lehenga has a sixteen-panel ghagra, which is fitted till the hips, giving it a very mermaid like contemporary look.
  • The cholis too are gathered which give the garment a very different look.
  • Sweet Sixteen
  • A highpoint of her festive collection is geometric embroidery and the garments have a little ruffle at the hem making them even more feminine, classy and in sync with the latest trends.
  • Feminine kurtas with a sixteen panel yoke with resham embroidery is another favourite this season which can be teamed up with a red and black tye and dye crushed dupatta.
