The Ring Story
Guru mantras for engagement wear
|
Gone are the days when bridal wear used to be all about your d-day ensembles. Today, bridal wear has gone glamorous with scintillating outfits for each and every wedding ceremony!
So, with the wedding season upon us, Shaaditimes brings you an exclusive fashion forecast on what to wear for your pre and post wedding ceremonies, starting from the engagement, to the sangeet and other wedding occasions.
Break the rules
Fashion designers and trousseau experts, Amber and Shirin give a few snazzy suggestions as what to wear for you engagement, both for the bride-to-be and the groom-to-be.
For women
Engagement is the time to flaunt your perfect figure, as you can wear something, which is a little unconventional and not too traditional. So get out of that traditional Ghaghra-choli and flaunt something, which helps you make a style statement. Here's what you can wear:
- Corsets are really big this season and something, which will be a little different from your usual bridal wear. Team them up with either a sari or a lehenga or even a mermaid skirt, which once again will accentuate your figure.
- If you choose to wear a conventional ghaghra or lehenga , you can still experiment with the cholis . Low back cholis and wide neck cholis are good alternatives-perfect to help you look your dazzling best!
- And still, if you are not the adventurous kind and don't want to go with low back and off-shoulder blouses, you can opt for a feminine short knee length kurta with a churidaar . Not only does it look elegant, but also looks stunningly beautiful!
Glam Take Shilpa Saklani and Apoorva Agnihotri
"We got engaged on the 13th of April, 2004. We had a traditional engagement ceremony, where I wore a traditional brocade sari , which was deep maroon in colour. Apoorva wore a formal suit." |
For men
- For men, Amber and Shirin recommend churidar kurtas , pathani suits with crushed stoles or even a Jodhpur with trousers for the engagement.
- Better still, if the groom too wants to experiment, he can go in for a styled suit without a tie.
Be colour clever
While choosing what colour to go for, it's best to wear what suits you, rather than blindly following fashion trends. Here are a few tips:
For women
- Deep pastels are the colours that are in vogue as per current bridal trends.
- However, for women it's more important to match their jewellery with their outfit. So, it's better to see that your jewellery matches your outfit, for e.g., if you choose to wear a turquoise ensemble for your engagement, then the jewellery would probably be diamonds with pink precious or semi precious stones.
