Brides today are getting adventurous with both colors and silhouettes. It is no longer just the traditional ghagra for them. Today's woman is very bold, very adventurous. She does not want to adhere to just the traditional - she wants to try out options for her wedding day so that she looks different from a conventional bride.
Fashion Designer Azeem Khan predicts, "I feel this season the bride has to be flamboyant and glamorous while epitomizing taste and style. Today the world is getting seamless, border less - hence, it is important that the ensembles have a world appeal in hues, silhouettes and embellishments and is not restricted to the Indian ethos only." He gives a lowdown on what's the perfect bridal wear, this season:
Bridal Hues
In terms of colors the bride is ready to explore newer shades and the color palette is not just restricted to 'RED' for her. Although the color 'RED' continues to dominate, a wide array of hues from jewel tones like gold, silver, fuchsia, orange, emerald green, candy floss pink and Naples yellow to pastels like aqua blue, lilac and celadon, peach and cream and powder blue are also in vogue.
Wedding Wows
Of course, the wedding day is the big day for a bride and she has to dazzle completely! Here's what's hot this season:
- Embellishments should consist of silk thread embroidery with lots of crystal work to add that sparkle. With women being so very conscious about their bodies today, brides are going in for clothes that are fitted and tapered. Tapered ghaghras more like trumpet skirts are in vogue. These silhouettes accentuate body curves.
- Of course, lehengas and shararas continue to be the dress code for many brides, but they are not the only option. Tapered trumpet skirt with gold and semi-precious stones like ruby embellished on it also look good. This is for those who want to really shine on their wedding day. It can be teamed up with a corset and an elaborate dupatta .
- Another innovation in style this season from Azeem Khan is the wrap- around lehenga over a sharara . This is a big rage for every bride-to-be this season. Decorated with paillette vines(metal work), metal leaves, caviar beads and marquise crystals, the outfit are heavily embellished with crystal dust. The crystal tassels adds to the grandeur of the outfit.
Trend Meter
- Elaborately embroidered saris in non-traditional colors like tiffany blue, fuchsia, pearl white etc. are the popular choices and are being preferred by many women.
An innovation in style is a two-color double pallu sari , is very popular with brides as it adds the required glamour quotient. While one pallu allows them to cover their head, the other one can be draped like a normal pallu .
- A lot of trendier brides are also opting for churidar kurta as their bridal wear. This season, short kurtas with very fitted net churidars is quite popular with bejewelled dupattas to minimise the need for jewellery for the neck.
- Strings of beads gathered together in the centre with fabric on either side to give the look of a thick beaded necklace, the woven paillette vine stole encrusted with marquise crystals styled in a manner to look like a choker when draped around the neck and the diamonds shaped woven beaded cluster stoles are some of the novel options for the brides this season.
Accessories
With the perfect bridal dress in your hand, what you need is a matching bag and nice sandals. Here's what you can choose:
- Pouches (small purses) for the bride for her big day are not recommended, as there is not much use of the same for her on that day. But embroidered and crystal encrusted pouches either in rectangular / square / circular shape for the bride for ceremonies like the wedding reception can certainly be used.
- The jewellery has to be ornate for the bride for her wedding, either elaborate diamond jewellery or jadau jewellery for her to match her outfits.
- And for the complete look, go for either jewel encrusted, beaded or swarovski studded sandals.
