Petticoat
A long floor length skirt that forms an under coat, over which a saree is draped.
Punjabi Suit
Same as salwar kameez.
Saree
A long piece of garment that is the traditional outfit for Indian women. It is typically uncut and un-sewn. The length of a saree is generally 5 1/2 metres and it is draped to cover the entire body from neck to toe. Different types of drapes can make the same saree look traditional, sophisticated, or sexy as the need may be. Also known as Sari. It is worn with a blouse and a petticoat.
Salwar Kameez
A three-part outfit that comprises a long shirt (kameez), flared trousers with a tie up at the waist (salwar) and a dupatta. It is a traditional dress worn by North Indian women, especially Punjabi women. Nowadays, the kameez is being teamed with pants instead of flared salwars. Different pant cuts are listed later. It is also known as a Punjabi suit.
Sharara
A trouser like bottom that can be worn with a choli, kurta or blouse. It is fitted like a trouser till the knee or mid thigh, after which it flares a little all the way to the floor.
Various Lehenga Cuts:
Basque cut
Such a lehenga has a fitted waist panel that covers the waist and the stomach. This is known as the basque. Further on the lehenga can either be flared or straight.

Fishtail cut
The lehenga is fitted till the knee and then flares out till the bottom, thus giving the appearance of a fish tail.
Rajasthani Kali cut
A lehenga that has a lot of panels or kalis. It can be straight or flared depending on the number of kalis in it. Rajasthani Royalty is known to wear lehengas with as many as 100 kalis in them, weighing in excess of 30-40 kilos.
Umbrella cut
This is a lehenga with a lot of flare. It is also known as a full circle cut because if you lay the lehenga down completely, it will form a perfect circle.
