Vivek Kumar Gave Jersey And Knits A High Fashion Twist
Master of the jersey and knit genre, Vivek Kumar's Anth Shashtra collection was an exercise of extreme design in a medium that is difficult to use. Working around a colour story of coffee, teal, dull green, orange and mustard the silhouettes were layered, draped and at times slashed to fit into the theme.
The dramatic circular discs on the hemline, the embroidered yoke pinafores, the asymmetric flapper dress with deep net armholes, the jersey sheaths, the double layered smocks and the ribbed sheath in rust all confirmed the skill displayed by the designer in his collections.
Embellishments like colourful pom-poms edged the hemlines and cuffs, while the intricate cable design of the dresses took the jersey line onto a high fashion level. Here was knitwear that could only be termed as haute for the coming season.
