"This time we have come up with a lover's umbrella which is a combination of two umbrellas. It's so designed that couples can use it together when they go out in the rains!" said Mr Aziz Currim, of Ebrahim Currims & Sons, the pioneer umbrella manufacturer in the country.

Today umbrellas are not just utility items on your necessary list to fight the rains, it has gracefully graduated into being the latest fashion accessory, so much so that it has also travelled to the ramp of Lakme India Fashion Week this year. For women, candy stripes, floral and geometric designs or denim prints are all-time hits as they come in bright colours. Even men can dump their boring black umbrellas and can experiment with wooden umbrellas with checks, newsprints and squares.

"It's amazing to find that umbrellas are also evolving with the changing fashion trends. Today they come in exotic ranges! Last year the transparent ones were in, this season the wooden umbrellas are a rage. Also, the bigger the better. "Another all time favourite is the Shahenshah umbrellas. These are huge in size and became a hit when Amitabh Bachchan used it in his movie Shahenshah. Even today people want to buy them. Another variety is the layered umbrella. These are made with special features like double layers of cloth to make them wind resistant," he added.
So don't let the rains dampen you. Step out in the rains with élan and enjoy!
