In our last issue you read about the key to selecting the right perfumes. This week we bring to you a guide to fragrance and what to keep in mind when selecting a perfume for your wedding day.
Guide to the fragrance
Citrus
Citrus oils from lemons, mandarins, oranges and grapefruits lend distinctive, tangy aroma to these fragrances.
Floral
Floral scent remains one of the most popular fragrance families. Aldehydes (a class of highly reactive chemical compounds; used in making resins and dyes and organic acids) are found in delicate flowers create soft, powdery florals. Aldehydes are found naturally in rose and citrus oils. Their natural scent is not that pleasant: some have a sharp, metallic fragrance; others a burnt, waxy aroma of a snuffed candle.
Oriental
Orientals are the exotic queens of perfumery. These fragrances are heavy on musk and rich oriental woods giving a powerful, luscious aroma that lingers long. If your skin reacts well then this fragrance can be sensual, otherwise you'll wish it away.
Aromatic
This is a universal fragrance with cool and warm notes of citrus and lavender, sweet spices and oriental woods.
Selecting the right perfume can be difficult and time-consuming.
Here are few tips to bear in mind while choosing a perfume for your wedding day.
- Experiment with fragrances at least a month before the wedding. Remember, your perfume should also complement your personal style and should be in keeping with the wedding ceremony.
- Avoid wearing a perfume when you go shopping for one; the fragrances will overlap and confuse your senses. Do not base your decision on sampling of test cards, actually wear them.
- Wear lighter scents during the day, especially if the weather is humid. Save the bolder ones for evening wear. Musk and oriental is the best bet - very sexy and divine.
- For a more feminine feel, use a floral or citrus fragrance.
- Never judge a scent by its name. A perfume by the name of 'Passionata' might be a light blend of wild flowers. Conversely, a sweet girlish label may actually be a strong, bold fragrance, instead. Names can be misleading.
