"Seema's Sky" is a translation of Prakash Trivedi's Gujrati novel "Seemanu Aakash". It has been specially translated by Ashok Dholabhai for shaaditimes. It is a love story and more.
The "New York Experience" show was projected on three huge screens dwarfing the spectators. There was rhythmic but loud musical accompaniment. Only about one-third of the seats were occupied. Nikhil watched the picture, images and symbols attempting to internalise what he saw of New York.
There was the Port Authority bus terminal larger than Mumbai's Churchgate Station but with the same crowd surging in and out. An assemblage of people from Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware. Below the bus terminal was the subway from where trains ran in and from all directions.
Yellow cabs rushing along and pedestrians running to cross the roads. Some of them try to stop the cabs by raising their hand whereas others stand frozen on the road. Large, metallic, shinning limousines wait to carry passengers to any corner of Manhattan. Cars, buses, taxis, limousines and even human beings all seem to be running - does no one walk? The roads are overflowing with people coming out of the subway and from the skyscrapers.
Some men are in overcoats, some in jeans, some in three- piece suits. Some wear scarfs to protect their chests. The women are dressed in skirt and blouse or in trousers; some wear caps or wigs. Some carry brief cases, some portfolios, some books, couples with arms around their waists, an old Jewish couple waiting to cross the road. It is a kaleidoscope of faces, figures, sights... His imagination tried to find Seema in that crowd and himself too. He imagined Seema alighting from a navy blue Cadillac, getting into an elevator and he coming by helicopter welcoming her at the helipad on the 65th floor terrace with a "Hello Darling!"
