It's your life - Part II

"He doesn't know that now I really don't have to be afraid anymore." Akshay murmured after the policeman left. Ishani was dead. Now there was nobody plotting his murder.
And according to Akshay, the plan to murder him was too amateurish to succeed in the first place. Of course, sheer luck helped him to solve the mystery. The caller identification service was activated on his private line, just the day the first threatening call came.
Since last few months, Akshay was getting fed up with people, including his daughter, calling up on his direct number. For some relief, he decided to put a caller ID on his phone. Being a careful man, he didn't let anybody know this. Not his wife and naturally not even his personal secretary Paul, who didn't prove to be trustworthy after all.
That first call had come from Akshay's own residence. Paul was absent that day. After two days when he walked in with the threatening note, Akshay's suspicion was aroused. And the young man was so reckless and stupid that the next call he made was from the office itself during the lunch hour. Akshay saw the number and immediately caught hold of him. Ten minutes of interrogation in the boss' chamber and Paul broke down.
"We thought after a few more calls you will complain to the police and everybody would hear about the threat to your life. Then one day when you really die, police would suspect some crazed jealous lover of Ishani." Paul said.
"But how was I going to die, who was going to kill me?" Akshay asked in amazement.
"We were going to find someone to do it." Paul confessed in a small voice. That moment he sounded like a boy who wouldn't even find a way to the bathroom in his house. "Please forgive me," he begged with folded hands. The fear of going to jail was greater than his love for Ishani.
Akshay thought hard and long and came to the decision. "I will forgive you, but on some conditions. First, you won't tell anybody about your affair with my wife." Paul immediately and happily agreed to this.
"You won't tell Ishani that I know everything. You would continue to be her lover."
Paul nodded dumbly.
"And you will find a man who would kill for money." Akshay smiled for the first time that day.
The rest was easy.
