Mili - Part I
Mili thought to herself, "This time I've had it. He has read my messages and knows about Sujal. He will never accept a boyfriend in my life. What will happen to all the dreams Sujal and I have seen together?" Mili did not know what the future had in store. But she knew the present. She had to wait till her exams and then decide. Talking to her father was definitely not an option.
All day as she studied her attention was divided between her studies and the thought of what Mr. Mehra would do after her exams. Her father, on the other hand, did not interact much with Mili since that day. He just kept inquiring about her studies. Nothing more. The fact was they never shared a close relationship. It was not that Mr. Mehra did not like Mili. But Mr. Mehra was involved in his own world of work and rules. He used to frequent clubs, art of living sessions and political rallies. Those were his interests. Mili, on her part did not bother asking her dad about his work. She hardly spoke when Mr. Mehra was around. She did not hate him. But there was an inert frustration within her. She was, subconsciously, becoming a rebel.
The days passed. Mili continued with her studies. All this while, she had communicated with Sujal only through e-mails. Finally, the exams came. Sujal was at the same exam center as Mili. They met after a long time. But this was not the ideal time to talk things out. They had discussed the situation through e-mails, but neither of them could see a viable solution. Mili had suggested that she elope with Sujal. Sujal was not sure. He had a part-time job. He lived in a rented apartment. His family was in Bhilai. If Mili came to stay with him, he would need a full-time job and pursue a part-time course for further studies. Mili was also prepared to work full-time and share the expenses. It did not sound as easy as it seemed. But was there any other option? They decided they would do just that. On the last day of their exams, Mili would not return home. She would leave a note saying she had eloped and it's about time that she started living her life her own way.
The day came. She stayed awake the whole night packing her bags and gathering courage. Mr. Mehra would go out to work before Mili left for her exams. That made things easier. She left her note on Mr. Mehra's study table, took her bags and went to Sujal's apartment. She left her bag there, went for her final exam along with Sujal, and began her new life.
