Love and Kush - Part III
|
"Oh yes. In fact next week she has invited me to one of her fashion shows."
"You must go, of course, if you feel well by then."
"I am already feeling well. The doctor said that I can start attending office soon."
Kush felt a little disappointed. He was enjoying playing big boss in his father's absence. "But it is better if you rest a little more," he said.
"But I need to go out now," KT insisted.
"Go out, but not for work."
"Then what?"
"Go for a walk, movie, play... whatever gives you pleasure."
"All alone?"
"No. Megan, I mean your, Megha, is there."
"I can't ask the poor girl to waste so much of her time with a boring old man."
"Come on papa. You are not so old and not at all boring. I know, Megha, enjoys your company. And tell me, don't you like her?"
The old man nodded slowly.
Ten days passed after that. Six out of those ten days, Kush, had to be out of, Mumbai, for some business related work. When he came back, he found, KT, watering some plants.
"Papa, you are looking well. Even better than me," Kush exclaimed.
"Thanks to your friend," KT smiled, and then suddenly asked, "What do you think of her?"
"What do I think?" Kush sounded flustered. He knew what was coming. And it came like a fragrant breeze. "How would you like it if she comes to stay in our house, permanently, as a family member?" Kaivalyaprasad asked with so much tenderness in his voice. Kush felt like hugging him. Megan had managed to crack the tough nut. His father was ready to welcome the South Indian catholic, non-veg eating girl, as his daughter-in-law.
"I love you papa," he said audibly.
"I know. That's why I don't care what others will say," KT spoke with unusual softness.
"Right. And remember, Megan, too loves you."
"True. And that's why I don't want to make her wait anymore."
"Oh papa. I am so happy."
"And you will be happier on the day when your new mother steps into the house."
"New mother?"
"Oh, you can continue calling her, Megan, if you wish. After all, she was your friend first, and now she will be a mother," KT said happily.
At last, Kush's prediction came true. His father fell for Megan. And what a fall it was for Kush. His hands were still trembling when he signed the register, as a witness, at his father's wedding to Megan.
