Love and Kush - Part III
|
« continued from Part - II

The next morning Kush informed his father, I have a lot of work to do in the office. Megan will come to meet you this afternoon."
Kaivalyaprasad just nodded. It seemed he was already having second thoughts about the guest. Before he could change his mind, Kush, escaped to the office. He just prayed that, Megan, could put up, with the insufferable man, for at least an hour. If his father liked, Megan, even a wee bit, then he would plan further. Right now he wanted, Megan, just to have her foot inside the Tapadia house.
That evening when he came home, Kaivalyaprasad, informed him, "Your friend just left."
Kush looked at the wall clock. It was nearly eight. "She came so late?" he asked.
"No. She came at around three but then stayed on. We had quite an interesting conversation."
Kush smiled. He could understand the stress, Megan, must have gone through, to spend five hours, with this terrible man. "Then I must ask her to come again another day," he said.
"I have already told her and she has accepted. She is coming for a game of chess tomorrow."
Kush almost jumped with joy. The magic of, Megan, had started to work sooner than expected.
"Darling, you are terrific," he cooed to, Megan, when he called her later.
Megan laughed. "He is a sweet old man. I don't know why you described him as a monster?"
Kush too laughed. He knew that, Megan, would discover the true nature of the monster soon. But before it happens, he wanted those two to like each other, and agree to stay under the same roof.
"How was your day?" he asked the next evening on returning from the office. "Not very good." Kaivalyaprasad mumbled.
Kush's heart sank. "What happened?" he asked with trepidation.
"Megha defeated me in all the games of chess."
"Megha who?"
"Oh, that girl Megan. I call her Megha."
"Doesn't she mind?" Kush asked in a bemused tone.
"Why should she? After all, I don't mind when she calls me KT."
Kush got a pleasant shock. Nobody had dared shorten Mr Kaivalyaprasad Tapadia's name in the past. Transition from KT to Papaji started looking easier now. But he would have to warn Megan. The old man didn't like losing any game.
"I defeated, Megha, today." The patient who was not looking very sick, now informed, Kush, one evening.
Kush nodded tiredly. These days he was so bogged down, by office work, that he forgets to meet Megan. Even talking to her on the phone for long was becoming difficult. However, he was happy that Megan had taken over the 'Please Papa' mission, and the hope of succeeding was getting brighter each day.
"Then, the foolish girl proposed to play a game of rummy. And you know nobody can beat your father. Megha lost three straight games."
"And how much money did she lose?" Kush asked smilingly. He knew his father loved gambling.
"Oh, she lost big time. But I let her cook dinner in lieu of money."
"Dinner?" Kush's mouth fell open. His father, a strict Hindu, would never allow a non - vegetarian person to enter his kitchen. Their own cook too- had to abide by a hundred rules.
Kaivalyaprasad, aka KT, unaware of the son's reaction continued. "I must say, the girl cooks well. I have already eaten but have saved some for you. Taste it, and let me know." Kush's stomach felt full without eating. His plan was succeeding brilliantly.
"Do you know that occasionally she does some modeling?' he asked cautiously.
