Jokes apart
Habiba and Jaaved Jafferi

They say a couple that can laugh together is definitely on the track for a successful marriage. At least one of the components is in place. Thus it should come as no surprise to learn that Habiba and Jaaved Jaaferi have a marriage which illustrates that happy marriages begin when we marry the ones we love, and they blossom when we love the ones we marry. Jokes apart.

Jaaved Jafferi and Habiba Jaaved Jafferi is one of the rare rustic talents of India, comfortably wearing many hats... from acting, directing, writing scripts, to launching his own music label, he is constantly stretching his expertise and career objectives... ekjactly ! What many of you may not know is that he's also happily married and a father of three, son of yesteryear comedian Jagdeep and brother of popular television host Naaved Jaaferi.

ShaadiTimes gets up close and personal with Jaaved and his wife Habiba.

They've been married for twelve years and known each other much longer, and both Habiba and Jaaved Jafferi believe their marriage is stronger today than ever before. "Marrying Jaaved was the best decision I've made," says Habiba. And she has every right to be proud... they say behind every successful man is a woman and Habiba Jafferi's tough exterior reveals a soft, kind person within. She has stood with Jaaved through his steady climb up the ladder of stardom, solid like a rock never swerving or swaying. "He proposed to me shortly after my mother passed away, and I was really shaken up," she muses. "We've always been in love with each other," says Habiba, and continues, "After having children I think it's made it even stronger, if that is possible," she laughs. "You won't believe it; we sleep with our children, and try and do as much as we can together." She is referring to Meezan, Alvia, and Abaas. Having three children is a full time job for any domestic engineer ( read: 21st century housewife / manager / counselor / guide / mom / wife ). "Pregnancy was crazy to handle especially with our eldest Meezan, but Jaaved was extremely patient throughout all three pregnancies," says Habiba. Jaaved says he loves being married to Habiba, "I think it's because we can talk to each other. Sometimes after the children sleep we can spend hours into the night just catching up with each other."

What's it like being married to Jaaved? "We spend a lot of time together. We love to watch movies or have dinner and talk. He's a totally techno guy. He loves collecting anything to do with electronics and computer software. We're pretty chilled out," she admits.

"He's multi-talented. Jaaved plays the guitar and keyboard in addition to writing songs, scripts, acting and directing. We complement each other as I enjoy music." Says Habibia.

The most annoying thing about being married to Habiba? Jaaved diplomatically says, "Nothing... she's a wonderful person and a good friend."

The most annoying thing about being married to Jaaved... "He's a better driver than me," she jokes. "No seriously, I think it's his constant need for perfection. Jaaved will never walk away from anything without completing it to his satisfaction." The best thing... "he's a good husband, a good father, a good brother... and basically a decent and sincere human being."

"It's not to say that we haven't had our problems in the past," says Jaaved. "There was a time we split after a heated argument, and then on my birthday I received a card. I opened it and Habiba wished me Happy Birthday and gave me the gift that she was pregnant."

Post Salaam Namaste...
Was she expecting the reaction to Jaaved's role in Salaam Namaste released earlier in the year? "Yes I did. I have always been confident of his work. He has always had the ability to create a character and bring to life the character." She pauses. "This was the only film where I attended the premiere alone as Jaaved was busy shooting. The audiences' reaction was thundering the response was overwhelming," she remembers.

Jaaved says, "I tried to create a cowboy character along the lines of one of the Feroz Khan characters previously played. I worked on the way the character spoke and emoted. The director gave me a lot of leeway to improvise." He continues, "I think the best award you get is from the man/woman in the audience who says you made them laugh. I think people go and watch a movie to forget their grief, their everyday problems and if they feel entertained than I think that is an achievement."
