Shilpa sizzles through Big Brother

So, Shilpa Shetty has finally done herself and our country proud. It is not the fact that she claimed Gold at the Big Brother contest but more the manner in which she did it that Indians must be proud.
Shilpa's demeanour through out the programme has been of poise, calm and focused response to the situation at hand. Her reactions to Jade Goody's 'hits below the belt' were more a media outcry than hers and that showed a high level of tolerance from the Indian starlet. One wonders how some of the other Bollywood superstars would have reacted?
She definitely took a lot of flak when she went back on her statements on the Goody episode but that must not be misunderstood for fear of the eventuality. It shows great character in being able to pardon your tormentor. And Shilpa did just that.
In the end it was great character, sublime confidence and like Jermaine Jackson, who finished as finalist said before exiting, 'kindness is a strength'.
India's tolerance has often been misunderstood for weakness and fear but the country has relentlessly gone ahead and pursued its dreams of being on the world stage in economics, science, technology and even entertainment.
Shilpa Shetty's exploits on the big screen could perhaps be summed up in a few pages but her victory last night stood for the true character of India - tolerance with confidence and for that, she has the right to her celebrity status, more than ever before.
