Food and Love At The Crepe Station
|
Shakespeare said, ''Music be the food of love; So play on play on.''
Love food. The Greeks believed in it. Hailing back to Socrates and Plato the western civilizations have celebrated their spirit with feasts. ''...there was a shift in how people viewed food. Suddenly eating could be a pleasurable experience, and food was to be consumed with gusto. Food was not just sustenance for the body; it fed the soul as well.''(Popular Renaissance Magazine).
As taste-buds get more refined, Indians are looking west for inspiration at weddings and other social gatherings. One of the newest food fundas garnering a flurry of excitement is the elegant, sumptuous and classic French crepe. Shaaditimes goes to the Crepe Station - one of newest vistas in Mumbai to pique one's palate!
It's an epicurean epiphany. Sweet dreams are made of this.
Imagine.
The monsoons, swooning on the beach, clouds sprinkling rain. Zoom to one of the most happening places in Mumbai. Crepe Station.
A franchise designed and conceptualized by brothers Restaurateur, Nicolo and Bollywood actor Dino Morea. ''The idea was simple,'' says Nicolo. ''We wanted to bring hearty European cuisine to India at affordable prices.''
Crepe Station reputed for its cuisine, splurges on atmosphere. A popular meeting place for young and old, as you enter you're greeted to a rustic Mediterranean fiesta, rhythmic music, a waft of flavored smoke from plumes of hookah. You'll find romantic Lotharios, couples in love, ladies groups, and the elderly. They may be indulging in conversation, a drink or two, but most likely drizzling honey and chocolate on mouth-watering crepes stuffed with a symphony of irresistible fruits, syrups, nuts, cream. "If you can dream it we make it," boasts Nicolo.
A delightful menu filled rich with regional fare from the Rhine to the Riviera; chunks of pasta, grills, salads, topped with tantalizing truffles and crepes representing the best from France, Germany and Italy. This should come as no surprise as owner Nicolo completed twelve years in Hotel Management in Switzerland, and Germany.
Tall and dignified, Nicolo is fluent in three European languages including Swiss-German. His more famous brother Dino is known to be a regular at the restaurant. "I love eggs for breakfast," divulges Dino and "He loves the Nutella Crepe," chimes in Nicolo. Although it certainly doesn't show on Dino's physique as he's a regular at the Gym. From mixed lineage the brothers' parents are Italian and Indian with the boys being brought up in Bangalore.
According to Nicolo, the Indian wedding is going to Europe. "First it was the industrialists that would serve European cuisine to a refined audience of well-wishers after flying the wedding party to Europe. We've brought Europe to India. And now anyone can re-define their wedding menu. We will create innovation combined with exotic rushes of spices and ingredients that promise to pique your taste-buds," he laughs.
Nicolo recently launched The Crepe Factory. "We are aiming to cater to any occasion especially engagement, weddings, corporate gatherings," says Nicolo. "The menu is in the process of being developed for location gatherings, but our signature crepes, grills and bolognaise sauces will definitely be included."
