BETI - A Tribute To Daughters
|
Fashion is always a delight and ramp shows even more so. However, when fashion serves a purpose and has a cause behind it, it manages to move from the arena of just glamour-to-glamour with a heart.
BETI is a movement against female foeticide started by Anu Ranjan. Anu's main aim in holding a fashion show was to attract people's attention to this atrocity. Most people who are not directly involved tend to stay unaffected by female foeticide. Anu hopes to get rid of the apathy. Celebrities from many arenas took to the ramp with their daughters to lend support to this cause.
Protesting against the killing of unborn female fetuses were former Miss World Yukta Mookhey and former Femina contest winners Tanvi Vyas and Amruta Patki. The real stealer though is celebs who walked the ramp with their daughters.
There was the indomitable Pooja Bedi with her daughter Aalia, singing sensation Alka Yagnik, Aditi Gowariker, Anu Malik, Roop Kumar Rathod, Sanjeev Kapoor, Manini De Mishra, Ashok Pandit and Poonam Dhillon - all with their daughters. Sharon Prabhakar, Farah Khan and Jaspinder Narula also attended to lend moral support.
Putting her money where her mouth is, Anu's husband Shashi Ranjan also took to the ramp along with his daughters. Shashi believes that the notion that fetus killing happens only in the lower class is a myth. In fact, it is just as prevalent in the higher echelons of society.
