Her food, fitness & beauty rules - Shruti Ulfat
A health food fanatic, Shruti, a pure vegetarian believes that the key to good health is to eat right and be happy. The popular actress and hostess of the small screen shares her food preferences, beauty secrets and fitness routine with ShaadiTimes.
Eat to live
I eat generally to feel good. I don't eat because I have to fill my stomach. I eat to live and don't live to eat.
I start my day with two glasses of water. For breakfast, I prefer having fruits instead of having juice. I also have cereals, cornflake, yoghurt and honey. Twice a week I have 6 almonds in the morning, soaked overnight in water. At around 11.00 I have a fruit again.
Lunch is always simple dal , rice , sabji . If at all during the day I feel like having an in-between snack, I just pick up a fruit or have sprouts. Dinner is almost the same as lunch. Boiled or steamed vegetables with salt and pepper and pastas, which are my favourite.
Nothing sweet
I don't have a sweet tooth. But I sometimes miss the gulab jamuns that I used to have in Dehradun. I like bitter dark chocolate. I also drink my coffee and tea without sugar. This has nothing to do with calories, sugar or diet. I just like to taste coffee and tea the natural way.
Favourite food
I love gourd (louki ). I have it everyday, simply cooked with zeera , haldi , green chillies and salt. I also like Thai and Chinese food.
Favourite eating spots
Legacy of China, Flavours a small joint at Lokhandwala and Urban Tadka.
Fitness
I have not been to the gym for the past 4 months. But I make sure I run for atleast 45 minutes everyday and do my yoga (Pranayam ) in the morning.
Beauty secrets
My best-kept beauty secret, which has been passed down to me by my mom, is my most regular treatment- lemon juice and fresh cream on the face. Besides, I go in for regular clean-ups, pedicure and manicure. I take a steam at home and after that put a pack of multani mitti , sandal wood powder and rose water. I put olive oil in the water every time I take bath to moisturise my body. Whenever I go out I use the sunblock.
Dinner date
My idea of an ideal dinner date would be in a jungle with my husband. It would be home-cooked on a treetop with torches lit all over.
My word
Eat right by finding the right food for yourself. Don't look for it in books, because you know best what your body needs. Drink lots and lots of water. You need to be happy and satisfied in life to look good, otherwise it reflects on your skin.
