Kunal Khemu
I am the total opposite of a metrosexual man
|
He was once the child star who captured the audience's hearts with the TV serial Gul Gulshan Gulfam and films like Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke, Raja Hindustani and Zakhm. Now in his twenties has gone on to grab lead roles in movies like Mohit Suri's Kalyug and Madhur Bhandarkar's Traffic Signal and more recently Priyadarshan's Dhol.
Kunal is also known and admired for his lean and brawny figure. Six-footer Kunal Khemu shares with us his fitness regime and eating habits.
Daily diet:
I do not follow a fixed meal pattern. There are days when I don't have breakfast but just have two meals a day. If you ask someone who is into fitness he will say that it is very wrong. I really have erratic schedules because there are times when I am shooting at night and therefore sleeping in morning. I get up in the day and directly have lunch. I however do think that everyone should have at least three meals a day - breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I also don't follow any particular diet. For instance I don't avoid anything, which has a lot of carbohydrates or oily food. I am a food freak who likes various kinds of cuisines. So when I eat a potato, I see it just as a potato and not carbohydrates. I eat everything I like.
I don't have a particular favourite fruit or vegetable. I don't even mind a karela (bitter gourd) which people don't like so much.
I am however a person who doesn't love fruits too much though I don't mind juices. I also don't like anything, which is too cheese based or baked stuff. Otherwise I am not a very fussy eater - I eat almost everything edible.
Favourite restaurants:
As I like Chinese food I regularly visit Mainland China in Mumbai. I also visit Yokos in Mumbai as I like their sizzlers. Other than these two places I don't really go out to eat. I prefer homemade food.
Cooking:
I cook sometimes. On a day I don't have a film shoot and plan to rest at home I start experimenting with various dishes. I like to cook anything ranging from dal, chawl and sabji to noodles and egg delicacies.
Mamma's food:
I think my mother is a very good cook. I really like the non-veg Kashmiri delicacies she makes. We are from Srinagar.
Workout regime:
I think working out is very important as it keeps you fit and healthy. So I try to hit the gym at least thrice a week.
I do more of weight training. I only do cardio if my trainer feels I need to do so. Many of my co-stars say that because I am young I have a higher metabolic rate. So I don't have a tendency to put on fat for which I am thankful.
I generally stick to about two muscles a day (e.g. chest and triceps/ back and biceps/ shoulders and legs in one day).
Outdoor sports:
I love playing cricket and football. Though currently I don't get much opportunity to play these games, in school and college I would regularly play these games.
As far as my favourite cricketers are concerned they keep changing with their performance. My all time favourites are however Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Flintoff and Dhoni.
My favourite football teams are Manchester United and Real Madrid. During the last World Cup I supported Brazil and Argentina. As far as Indian football is concerned I recently caught the finals of the Nehru Cup. Baichung Bhutia is of course really talented and one of the most prominent names in the Indian team.
Losing and gaining weight for various roles:
It depends on the film and the character you are playing. For instance I had to get into shape for Kalyug as I was a gym trainer. But if you need to play a poor roadside guy as in Traffic Signal you need to lose weight. If you are doing an action film you need to bulk up to look big.
For me changing weight accordingly to roles is a fun process and not stressful. This is because I enjoy doing this as I have put my heart and soul into it.
De-stressing:
The best form of de-stressing for me is sleep. I'm not too much of a party animal. I just like to relax at home watching movies instead. I watch Hindi, English, Chinese, Korean, Irani films and World Cinema.
Hair and skin care:
I don't give much attention to skin and hair which obviously a lot of people around me don't like and insist that I should go for a cleanup. I never had long hair just because I didn't want to comb or take proper care of it. If however there is a crisis situation regarding hair or skin I go for a quick fix. To that extent I am totally the opposite of a metrosexual man.
